You posted in the Android Market Missing Thread so I assumed your Airpad did not come with Android Market App installed. The first ones shipped did have it and then  starting around mid Oct. they no longer had the Android Market. The early ones had Rom _001  and the later ones _004 which can not have the Android Market installed in them.As per the current ads and instructions you must get Apps from the Amazon Market.

Have you read this whole thread and perhaps searched for post on Root  / Rooting?

Flashing the ROM is a bit of work and not really a simple task. Some have gone to this trouble  to either get the original _001 ROM which has the Android Market ,some flash to  _002 which also has the Android Market plus if fully Rooted.

Here is a link if you care to have a go at it.

Could X-10 make their ads any more confusing?

Early (pre mid Oct) Air pads had Android Market on them. Later / present ones do not or do they once again?

I should add for clarification that Android Apps are available for the current AP but from Non Market places such as Amazon not from the Android Market ,Goggle.

Thanks for taking the time to write in. According to our records, the device you're using isn't supported for use with Android Market at this time. For additional details, please see this complete list of supported devices:

http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/answer.py?answer=1727131

The Android operating system is open source, which means any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that's only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.

For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit:

If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. Have a lovely day.

Regards,

Christine

So I understand this.  I just purchased an Airpad X, not yet to my home, still being delivered by FedEx sometime today.  When I get the Airpad I will not have access to android market which is why I purchased the item in the first place.  My kids love the apps on the market and this was to get them off my Android phone.  Thanks X10.  By the way, I may not even open the box before sending it back from what I have seen on this board.  Very much down in the dumps.

You might look into the possibility of refusing delivery.  Make sure you cover all grounds ie understand any consequences.

Do not open the box if you decide to return it.
In the fine print at the bottom of the sales page. There is a 15% restocking fee for opened nondefective units.

The very first AirPads had the Goggle Android Market APP preinstalled  but non of the Air pads have had this since approx. Mid. Oct..

How to get APPs from Amozon has been covered several times and some even prefer this. Some have issues due to their location (non USA).

IMO The X-10 Pads have been yet another case of poor marketing and mass confussion. I have one of the early 4" Air Pads and it works well but fact is that I paid $40 to much for it. Live and learn as they say.

I second the suggestion to refuse delivery. That way, you don't have to deal with an RMA, or have to pay return shipping or anything.
Just refuse delivery, and call X10 to let them know you refused delivery, and you want a refund.
Track the status of it, and start bugging them for your refund as soon as you see it arrive back at X10.

x10 apearntly made some kind of cash deal with amazon, becouse the owners manual sais to install the amazon market.  I found a video on youtube that told how to install the missiong google apps on the tablet

Anyone have any success putting androidmarket on a new airpad 7P?
Is there anyway for a user to get a license to androidmarket?

From what I've been able to gather licences are issued to the manufactures. Not individuals
It is also stated there is no restrictions on an individual from installing it on their device.
The problem is finding a way to do it!  ::) :'
I suspect installing an old version from a flash drive maybe the way to do it since the sites tend to look at the device IDs.
I've found such a version and have a link posted on my forum. ;)

Not to worry I've been informed that APK also fails.
Keep an eye on the X10 news section there as I'll keep looking for an old link that works. ;)
