Hello,

Great that X10 has been cleaning up their software finally.

One of my remaining issues that I cannot get an answer from X10 support is this:

If the VA12A is plugged in a USB port when I reboot, the cursor freezes on the login screen.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Any ideas?

I seem to remember they released a 64-bit version of the drivers back in 2009, but I think they have since incorporated that into the main install.
You're running AHP version 3.318, right?
Have you verified that if you unplug the VA12A, that the system boots just fine?
Have you tried a different USB port, by any chance?

My VA12A runs on my win7 64 bit machine without issues when rebooting.
If it is indeed the VA12A causing the issue it maybe faulty.

I am running 3.315 and have always had this problem.  

Yes, the system always reboots fine if the VA12A is unplugged.  I do remember some contention between that and Windows Media Center but I just tested that and it seems that they are playing well together.

I just tried un-plugging it from the backside of the PC to a USB on the front, it doesn't make a difference.  Once I unplug it, then the cursor on the sign in screen again moves.

It would be grand to get all the X10 software running bug free!

The latest version is 3.318, you can download it from here:

There was a fix in version 3.316 that dealt with the VA12A and flickering, perhaps there was more to that issue.
It certainly doesn't hurt to try updating and see what happens.

It that doesn't work, you want want to try re-installing the driver, and making sure that it detects it and uses the correct driver in the Device Manager (sometimes Windows reverts to the generic "Intel PC Camera").

I will try the upgrade.  Do just need to download the AHP zip?  Will that update all the addins like Macros, iWatch and Myhouseonline?  Do I just install over or do I have uninstall everything first?

Where is the camera driver in the Device Manager?

Download and install the updater EXE.
that will update all of your plugins, too.
It is a good idea to make a backup of your AHX file before doing the upgrade, just in case something goes wrong.

Where is the camera driver in the Device Manager?

I don't know offhand, and I never installed the VA12A under Win7.
I am pretty sure it was under "Imaging Devices," but it may be under the "multimedia" devices instead.

OK, now updated to 3.318 but still have the same problem.

I cannot get the VA12A driver to load.  I even tried going into safe mode and installing said update as well as the “X10 USB Video Drivers: VA12A, VA11A, CM15A, CM19A.”  The device manager shows it as a “unknown device” with a Microsoft driver version; 6.1.7600.16385.

I am guessing just like the old days when there were a lot of bugs that this is still fighting with Windows Media Center for the video capture portion.

Now I can’t even get the cameras to work in AHP since this 3.318 update.

What do you think?

I had issues installing the VA12A and had to uninstall the drivers.
I even removed the files from the x10 common folder then reinstalled the drivers using the drivers found on the software page.
You might try to manualy change the driver first

I now have driver version 2.87.0.33 installed and for the first time in 10 years it seems to be in the correct category in the device manager.  Sadly, I still have to unplug it before I reboot?

Any ideas on why I have to unplug the VA12A to get the cursor not to lock up on a reboot?

It does NOT work with X10s video capture software. It has its own motion sensing software.

I have seen some motherboards reported to not booting correctly with some USB devices attached.
You may want to see if yours has a setting to boot from a USB device and do a test with boot from USB device disabled.

So I would not be able to tie it in to send me an email or record to disk, etc?

I do have a extra “input” on my USB tuner which I know I can configure under Windows Media Center.  I wonder if that would work?  It’s a Hauppauge 950Q TV tuner .

I had a similar problem with one of my PCs locking up at boot time, every so often (more often, sometimes).
I tracked it down to the receiver for my ATI RF remote. Once I unplugged that, the problem went away.
Perhaps I should try disabling the "boot from USB," and see if that fixes the issue with the remote.
