Another mystery I don't understand
« on: February 16, 2012, 03:19:51 PM »

For years I have used an appliance module to control an electric blanket, since my wife likes to have the bed warmed up before crawling into it.  The module is scheduled via Active Home Pro.  Recently this quit working.

My first move was to replace the appliance module, but no joy.  Next was to plug in my XTBM to see if the signal was being sent, and it is...this command shows up at the same duplex outlet the blanket is connected to.

If I use a wireless remote to send the command, the module responds.  If I use the module control in Active Home, no response (yet the signal shows up on the XTBM).  If I use the wired control pad at the bedside, the module responds.  So why does Active Home no longer get the job done?  Other signals sent via the PC still work fine.

Let me guess - either you or your wife recently started charging your cell phone in an outlet that you haven't used before.........

It must be the blanket!  rofl

How much signal is the XTBM showing from the CM15A vs the amount of signal when you use the remote. (obviously measured at the blanket AM outlet) I agree with the JMac theory. You have a new noise maker somewhere between CM15A and the AM controlling the blanket.

Is the remote using a different transceiver or is the CM15A also the transceiver for the remotes commands?
Posting the XTBM readings between the CM15A's command the the remotes command. May show something as dave w mentioned.

You give me too much credit Brian. I was thinking probably a TM751 or RR501 in the mix. If BillB is using only the CM15A as transceiver, then we have yet another fine X10 mystery.

If the XTBM shows the signal showing up at the beside, then *some* signal is making it through. However, it might not be the *right* signal. Perhaps AHP is not sending the SAME command as the remote.
Is there another module defined in AHP on the same HC/UC (a lamp module, perhaps)?

What does the AHP Activity Log show for the commands AHP is sending? How does that compare to what it shows when using the remote?

I don't have an XTBM, does it display Extended commands, and bright/dim commands?

Yes.  However, it doesn't specify what the extended command does.  Maybe in the Pro version...
