X-10 TM751 mod?
« on: March 15, 2012, 08:04:28 PM »

A TM751 would be a perfect solution if it could be wired to send an OFF signal if a hard wired switch to it was activated.

Is this possible?

When you push the button to turn ON or OFF the outlet, the TM751 does not send a status command. However the RR501 does send status when the outlet is actived or deactivated. So you could, with minor hacking, use a RR501. However your wires from the RR501 will have line voltage on them.

My older and recent revision RR501s don't send anything on the power lines when the local control button is pushed.

Also we have seen reports of new TM751s not having the controlled outlet and local button anymore.
Just a pass through outlet that sounds like the ratchet switch was removed and the outlet jumped out.
Not too clear if the control electronics was also removed along with the ratchet switch.
The sales page now says pass through outlet.

dave w also made a very good point. The electronics in both a TM751 and RR501 are power line derived. It is possible for a externally wired switch to be 120 volts above ground and a shock hazard.

Sorry Stu, I sent you down a dead end.
Based on Brian H's knowledge that the newer RR501 no longer sends Status after a manual (local) change, then the answer to your original question is at best a NO for both TM751 and RR501. Did you check out any of the Smarthome.com stuff? They make an equivalent to the "Power Flash".
