Moving from CP-290 to CM15A
« on: March 12, 2013, 02:19:14 AM »

After about 20 years, I'm afraid my CP-290 system running Bruce Christensen's XA - X10 Command Interpreter version 01.06 has failed. For the last year, it's been running on a Windows 7 PC. I had to install DOSBox v0.74 to run the software under Windows 7 and use a USB to serial port adapter to hook up the CP-290.

I'd like to replace the CP-290 with an   ActiveHome Pro CM15A. Is there any software that will let load a command file to the CM15A in a way similar to the way Bruce Christensen's XA lets me load the CP-290?

Probably not.   The CP290 was totally different than the CM11A or the CM15A.  I started X10 with a CP290 back in the late 1980's,  went to the CM11A in the 1990's and the CM15A in 2002.  Each time I changed interfaces I had to always start from scratch as no one allowed just passing timers from one to the other. The only things that were used with all interfaces were the modules.

I use the CM15a with the eventghost software and it's working out pretty well for me.  Eventghost itself is a awsome event receiver program, I use it for so much more than just X10 stuff, it helps automate my house and media center.  The unfortunate thing is the plugin for the CM15a works great to send x10 signals, but for some reason when you receive signals it gets stuck after about 1 or 2.  I think it's an issue with the python call to the SDK, but I'm not a python programmer so don't know how to fix it.  You can see it here :

The developer has updated later on page 3, so that's the best one to use, but he has since left the scene.
