Why x10 modules work in some outlets but not in others ???
« on: December 08, 2012, 07:01:52 PM »

Anyone have experience with x10 modules working in some but not all outlets ?  I have moved a working one to an outlet that doesn't respond and they just don't respond in some outlets - any clues ?  The house is 12 years old the modules are new and working in 10 out of 15 windows electric receptacles. I use a 1 transceiver module set to A1 and 15 lights set A2-15 and 1 remote power house module.

Common complaint. So we have lots of experience with your problem.

You most likely have power line signal problems.
Including phase coupling problems.
Most homes are wires split single phase with about half the home on each incoming Line.
X10 signals have a hard time getting from one phase of the house to the other. Many times a phase coupler or better yet a repeater coupler between the two incoming power lines is required.

Also many modern electronic devices either make noise on the power lines or absorb X10 power line signals {Signal Sucker}. So some troubleshooting tests maybe needed. Then possibly a few X10 type filters on the offending electronic devices in the house.

Thanks for the reply.

I have turned off the wireless, no microwave, and the digital phone is disconnected.  The ones that do not work on on the same living room/dining room circuit - two work two do not.  The phase coupler or repeater you speak of - what are they about ?

Do you know if the outlets that work and don't work are on different circuits?
If there is any electronics. Like TVs, Cell Phone Chargers or any other devices on the circuit with the problem outlets. Unplug the devices. Turning them off is not enough.

The JV Engineering XTB-IIR is the best repeater that we know of and use.

The Act CR234 and X10Pro XPCR are other repeaters some have used.

The X10Pro XPCP is a passive phase coupler. Not as effective as a repeater coupler.
