It does sound like the diodes may have had poor solder connections.
My RR501 that went crazy. Had a brown area on the PCB around the zener and what looked like flaky solder from heat.
Those C1? IDs must be Chinese type markings.

The crazy thing about this PF is that I bought it and very soon had issues with it, so I called X10 to get warranty service.  They told me that even though the unit was well within the warranty period, since I did not buy directly from X10's web site, they would not cover it.   

What good is a warranty that doesn't actually cover a product that's within the explicit warranty period just because I purchased it through one of their partner distributors?  Rather than buy it from them for ~$40+S&H, I decided to replace it from ebay for ~$15 shipped.  When I had a moisture problem with a MS16A that I purchased from them directly, they were willing to help, but the shipping was going to make it prohibitively expensive.  I guess I don't know what good an X10 warranty is at this point.

Yes any X10 device bought through an independent X10 dealer has to be handled by them.
Most would replace it and then deal with X10 themselves.
I know my purchases from authorized X10 dealers on EBay do any warranty problems and not X10.

Insteon is the same way. If you purchased from an authorized dealer they handle warranty problems. If you bought it from Smarthome their retail division. Smarthome will handle all problems.
