Any fix for this? The MS is not that old. It changed the unit code itself, and now I can't program the correct address.
Removed the batteries for 20 minutes, tried again, and nothing.

When you removed the batteries did you insert new (different ones)!
When these things change their address on their own it is a indication the batteries are failing.

Yes. The older batteries were 1.4v. The new ones were 1.6v. I have it apart now looking for data mice.
At times the buttons won't work too.

If they are those carbon buttons on a flexable membrane. I have seen that type of switch get very intermittent.

Well now it all works fine when it's apart. When I put it back together, it will not work.

Sounds like the case is warped and hitting something it shouldn't.

Another possibility would be a poor solder connection and the case is twisting the PCB enough for it to break.

I will take a look at the PCB and resolder as needed.
