New to x10
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:42:08 PM »

I'm all new to this stuff. I want to start but not sure where. I want to run everything from a harmony one (IF only). Can someone tell me what I need or point me in the right direction?

Thanks

You'll need a device like this: http://www.amazon.com/X10-X10Pro-IR543-Infrared-to-X10-Receiver/dp/B0032EFSW6/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1356960972&sr=8-11&keywords=x10+ir

It will receive the IR signal from the Logitech remote and change it to an X10 PLC (power line command). If your looking at adding X10 lighting control to a theater setup you might want to look at using a CM15A computer interface for advanced functions particularly when used with a Home Automation PC. I also like the Logitech harmony link remote control device. I uses an ipad, itouch, and/or iphone and downloaded software to operate the link via the home WiFi network.... VERY cool.

Assuming you have an iPad/iPhone or Android tablet/phone. For the current prices of the IR543, you would be better off buying iRule and downloading the X10Commander server on the PC. This allows http commands to be sent to control your X10 devices.
I plan on using both systems for the sake of redundancy - iRule (wifi based), and IR543/Harmony One (IR based)
