Microsoft Kinects Improves Voice recognition
« on: December 21, 2013, 04:45:32 PM »

Many users have been looking for improved voice recognition.
Good microphones help but this thing has an array of mics built in which enables it to tell where the sound is coming from.
This won't work on XP in fact I believe you need a minimum of Windows 7 for it to work.
Also you can use your Xbox Kinects if you install the Kinects SDK.
You don't need any other special software as once these are  installed windows detects them and will set it as the default mic.

I've been Playing with this and PcCompanion for a few months now on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1
Voice recognition improved dramatically on all with the Kinects :)%
True Microsoft improved voice recognition with each build but the Kinects builds on that.
Using voice recognition is becoming a joy to use now instead of just a novelty.
This will work with other Voice recognition programs as well however if they don't close the windows SR you will experience some issues with command execution.
One other cool thing with these is you can connect multi Kinects and windows will see them all
This aspect I haven't started to play with yet but it does open some cool possibilities for Home Automation

I think kenrad was experimenting with Kinects a couple years ago. I was impressed with Kinects abilities originally... and now prices and computer speed/memory/OS have all improved. The modification and integration of what Kinects can do.... could make any setup future-like. The body-face recognition intrigues me. As well as "gesture commands".

Yes KENRAD was and still is using nitrogenlogic with Kinects.
But I don't believe this is capable of VR as it uses a Shevaplug I believe ::).
I've been playing with gesture and body tracking using the Kinect and have looked into the face recognition part.

However the voice recognition part I found interesting.
It is cool it can tell which side of the room the sound is coming from.
My VR needed some improving and adding this to my setup was a big boost without any extra software improvements.
I have added some Kinects code to PCC but I'm just scratching the surface for what this can do sound wise.

CastleOS has a good bit of Code added for VR with a Kinects however it currently only supports Insteon

Hey Folks! Just wanted to chime in here to clarify that we do in fact support X10 - with the INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (PLM) as the computer interface.

There is simply no other voice control system on the market that can come close to comparing, if you want voice control, CastleOS is what you are looking for!

Supporting x10 computer interfaces would get a lot more users testing CastleOS.  >!
