Pricing WAY OUT OF LINE
« on: April 19, 2014, 10:15:03 PM »

Having been with X-10 for more than 30 years I find your pricing to be WAY out of line with the old X-10.com.

I can pick up most of these products for 1/3 rd of the price in retail stores.
$24.00 for a module I can get at Radio Shack for $7.00. I don't think I'll be buying from you. 'Specially since they come from China anyway. :-*

Things have changed and the prices are now more in line with what they should have been.
See Jeff's very good information in this thread.

If you think X10 prices are high. Take a look at UPB,Insteon or ZWave to name a few.

What Radio Shack still has their X10 Powerhouse line of modules? They dumped them years ago in a clearance sale.
Then a few years later dumped their ZWave Modules.

I just checked a few of the independent X10 dealers web sites. They are all with in a few dollars of what is listed on the X10 sales site.
X10WTI's  prices where also higher if you didn't go for one of the package deals.

Authinx has always dealt with the pro line (which was always been of a higher quality).
Seeing that they needed to find a new manufacture for the X10 line I expect the quality standard will be much better.
This alone effects the price.
Gone is the day of dirt cheep manufacturing in China though it may still be cheaper then North America that too will soon not be so.
I suspect the modules you get from Authinx to be of a higher quality then that from X10WTI.
From my experience thus far, they are more concerned with quality then quantity and the mighty dollar! :)%
Hopefully this never changes! ::) :'

...... I can get at Radio Shack for $7.00.

I miss the old radio shacks. The ones around here are little more than phone stores. Although the arduino product line(s) does remind me to the old days.

I agree! They used to be a great parts store (especially back in the days of "Allied - Radio Shack" and "Lafaytte Radio"). Anyone besides me remember "McGee Radio" of Kansas City. Wish I had one of their catalogs to leaf through today....sigh.

Yes, I remember them.  I may have a couple of their catalogs packed away, as I do with the old Radio Shack, Allied, and Lafayette catalogs.  I even remember Burstein-Applebee and Olson Electronics.  Then there was that tube place somewhere in NYC, but I don't remember their name.

Tube?

Yes, transmitting tubes for ham equipment.  Back then TVs also used tubes, and a local store had a tube checker with a stock of replacement tubes.

Depending on what model it was, you junked a chunk of cash.

I guess the original poster hasn't been to Radio Shack in the last 10 years.  It has to have been that long since they've carried anything X10.

The tube place was Barry Electronics, and they put out Barry's Greensheet.  I saw they are a collector's item today.
