Why WiFi my CM11A?

I'm looking into the USR-C215 which might be used to WiFi-enable legacy serial devices like the CM11A or XTB-232. The company that makes it also supplies virtual serial port software so you could continue to use whatever software you currently use to communicate with your serial device except the communications would be over your network.

Given my age and health issues I don't want to be involved much beyond the proof of concept stage but others might create Android and/or iOS apps for the CM11A/XTB-232 or modify HomeGenie to use WiFi on a RPi3.
