Looking for a decorator switch with TX and RX
« on: February 27, 2016, 06:49:17 PM »

I know X10 has a switch that transmit's when activated locally but it is kind of funny looking... does anyone know of a company that might sell a normal looking decorator style switch that both transmit's and receives?

Thanks!!!!

What X10 switch has a power line transmitter in it?
I don't believe any presently manufactured X10 switches have a power line transmitter in it and a receiver with load control.

I use to recommend the Insteon line of switches but they have eliminated X10 support in them.
Though the way Smarthome implemented X10 dimming {X10 %Dim Command} didn't work 100% correctly with a CM15A and AHP.

I was thinking of the XPT-NS setup with the XPT-1-NS switch or something like that.  The styling of the switch probably won't fly though.

Do you know any part numbers for Insteon swithches that did both RX and TX?   Maybe I can find some used somewhere.

Thanks for the reply!!!

The XPT-NS and XPT-1-NS is an X10 power line controller. It can send X10 commands to other X10 modules. It has no power line receiver or load controls in it. So it can not be controlled by other X10 transmitters.

The Power Line communications only Insteon Switches. All supported an X10 Primary Address. Some also an X10 Scene Address
2476D 600 watt dimmer, 2476DH 1000 watt dimmer, 2476S Relay type On/Off.
The Paddle Color Change Kits are still available.
The Bargraph color LED Light Pipe kit are still available. I am using Frosted and Blue.

The less feature Icon versions with a single Green or Amber Off LED are 2876D and 2876S. Also supported an X10 primary Address.

There was an issue with some production runs.
The small tact switches the paddles pushed. Would click but not make a connection. So local control didn't work.
If you get some used ones. Verify from the seller the paddles are not intermittent.

I also mentioned the dimmer versions use the %Dim command that AHP and the CM15A do not use.
Local Paddle activation with B1 X10 address.
Dimming and brightening sent a %Dim command back on the power lines.

The earlier hardware Dual Band also supported X10. I don't have the revision where X10 was removed.

I found some 2476SC models...  any idea what the C stands for?   I'll see if I can find out.

normal looking decorator style switch that both transmit's and receives?

Also discontinued, but any of the wall switches made by ACT and advertised as supporting "A10 Technology" are 2-way and they look pretty nice.  I think they will all send a STATUS ON when locally turned on and a STATUS OFF when locally turned off.  Note that STATUS ON and STATUS OFF are different from the more common ON and OFF commands that the old Smarthome switches Brian mentioned send, but it actually conforms better to the X10 protocol.  These commands won't directly turn on and off another typical X10 module on the same address like the Smarthome switches do, although you can do this with additional ACT A10 switches if you really want to, because they can also be programmed to respond to STATUS ON and STATUS OFF as if they were ON and OFF commands.  Speaking of programming, the ACT switches have a ton of programmable options.

There are a bunch of them here:

ACT has stopped production of A10 devices so I assume that the ones that remain here are just leftover inventory.

While looking at some of the 2476S manuals to see if I could find the 2476SC. I found a hardware 6.0 and above manual and I have to correct my statement on all 2476S/D models supporting X10. The 6.0 and above says X10 NA. So not all versions do support X10.

One other point that may have not been covered. All the Insteon models need a Line and Neutral power connection to work. Along with the Load Output they have. I believe the ACT ones also used a neutral connection in the switch box.

When ACT was closing out their A10 line. Their web site {now gone} did indicate. Remaining stock was the last of the products and when gone. There would be no new ones produced.

I bought the A10/X10 firmware add on for my ISY994i controller. A10 does have some nice added features.

Sadly ACT went out of business about a year and a half ago, and Phil Kingery retired.

Don't know how long Kingery's tutorials will be available.

Thanks for posting the ACT web links as working again.
I looked a few months back and both where not found.
Can't say if they have any stock left but I believe they only sell through automation vendors and not to end users.
If anyone needs the instructions for some of the ACT models. The modules web links to instructions are also live.

Over a year ago Phil said he was charged with clearing everything from the warehouse which would be his final responsibility at ACT. Act was morphing into a totally different company. So I doubt anything X10 is left. There was a gmail, address on the old ACT home page http://www.act-solutions.com/, maybe try that.
