Anyone familiar with X10, outdoor pan, tilt, Zoom (PTZ) camera manual software control freezing, rapid uncontrolled camera movement occasionally?

Which camera and which software?
It is possible there is a firmware update.

X10 Airsight xx40 with the IP camera tool firmware version 17.35.2.41

I don't believe had one of those but they are simular to the old Easyn mpeg outdoor cameras.
The EasyN camera PC software I believe is compatible with it.
I also was able to flash a Foscam firmware to a old EasyN out door camera that had failed and got it back up and running
I'll try to see if there is or was a firmware update for the XX40A.

So, you guys think the software may be the issue here?

Tell me; the high deff X10 PTZ cams don't need port forwarding? whick ones would you all recommend?

Mic_

where could I locate the  EasyN camera PC software? I really need to replace my existing xx40 software. Thanks

One issue puzzles me regarding the family of PTZ cams like the XX40...These require port forwarding set ups, while the newer IP cams don't. any thoughts?

I bought Web Cameras back in '95. They were $100 each and required leasing a server to make them work. Even then... I could only get decent enough Internet speed to use them (I sent one to my now wife) in the very early hours of the morning.

Everything gets better.... and better. It's tough to set-aside the old tech and modernize. But often enough... that's the solution.

I get it. I was trying to gain some knowledge; but, I understand the drift. Thanks

the newer IP PTZ cameras still need port forwarding if you use the web interface.
If you use the IP camera app port forwarding isn't needed as the software uses P2P
I'll have a look for the EasyN IP camera software but I suspect if the x10 camera software is failing it will to.
Have you tried connecting with the Ethernet cable to be sure it isn't the cameras Wi-Fi that failed?

Thanks for the knowledge and patience. The failure I mentioned does not happen all the time. Things will work for a while, then fail (Kinda freeze) then the camera will speed through pan, tilt, and zoom mode before parking itself on the bottom of its travel. Once I reset the power, it would work again. I have much better luck with it controlling from my smart phone. Thanks again
