To x10 Pro / AHP Registration Problems
« on: May 14, 2005, 12:17:58 PM »

Am I the only one having registration
problems ? I have been using AHP since
Oct.,2004 And have gone through all the
same problems everyone has. My replacement
CM15A diagonostic unit operating on 3.186
runs very well, but not perfect (yes, my
unregistered software runs OK).
I had hoped to enhance my system with Smart
Macros. It downloads fine, but it will not
register - so it will not appear on my
computer.
I am using XP Pro/SP2 and AHP 3.186. I have
tried to setup my FireWall(s) to allow x10
FULL ACCESS - still no help.

I bet you did but thought I'd ask in case....
You added -1 (for AHP) and -2 (for Smart
Macro's)  at the end of your personal order
number to register each product ?
I am using XP/SP2 and it worked fine when I
registered.

Thanks, Steve
I tried that, just now, after your
suggestion - no help. I really believe it
is a problem regarding the I.P. address of
the x10 computer is constantly changing
every time I try this. If I knew the range
of I.P. addresses they use, I could set up
my firewall. I should not have to open my
ports to the entire internet to do this.
Maybe the x10 Pro may come through.
Thanks Again, Roger

Darn.. sorry your having so much trouble..I'd
be upset if I had paid for the software and
could not register it.  Maybe you could just
disable the firewall while your registering.
I have XP and firewall setup but did not
have this problem nor did I have to do
anything out of the ordinary.  Hope you have
success.

Roger K: I'm pretty certain the IP address of
the registration server isn't constantly
changing, but there are a couple other things
that can cause problems. Are you getting any
error messages when trying to register?

To x10 Pro,
The error messages I get are "Registration
Failure: Could not Retrieve".
I bought AHP on one email address and have
since changed to another - I ordered Smart
Macros on the new address.
I still have the old address, so I'm going
to try a couple things. I'll post my
attempts and hopefully my successes.  Roger

I've reloaded my original software many
times over the last few months, have had no
problems till now.   I get the same message
stating the data could not be retrived from
the registration server.   I allowed X10
through my firewall, no good, I shut my
firewall down, no good.....   Called in and
talked with support and they claim it must
be my firewall !!!!!!!   So now I cannot
even use the Active Home Software.   PS: I
even restored my system from a backup then
tried to install ny original AHP software -
Same problem.   X10 - please help us get
this working.....

We aren't having any problems with the
servers. Some proxies can interfere with
registration, and there are some other
circumstances that can cause problems. It
might be best to work on the problem by e-mail.

I've not changed anything on my end in the
last several months and have successfully
loaded my original software many, many
times till today.    Who do you want me to
email, what do you want to tell me on
email, please tell me what you want to do
to get this working again.   I called in
and got very little support over the
phone.  What do you want me to tell you ?
My email is <E-mail address removed at users request>.

To x10 Pro,
Well I now have used all my tricks. I could
use a few suggestions. In the beginning,
October, 2004 I was able to register. I had
so many problems then, that I asked for an
RMA# and maybe that's where my registration
problems began. I cancelled my RMA when the
software started to operate with each
revision. Then they sent me a diagonostic
unit with a new suffix on my original
registration number. I did use two
different email addresses - one dialup and
my new one, DSL. My Smart Macros downloads
and installs fine. I just can't register
the Smart Macros or AHP. I'm able to use
AHP 3.186 OK - works well; can't do
anything with Smart Macros. It's like they
aren't a part of AHP. I'm all out of ideas.

X10 Techs:  This has to be the most
pathetic situation I have ever run across.
We, your users battle with the problems of
your immature hardware & software on a
daily basis.  We stick in there because we
want your product to work, we spend hours
debugging & working around problems & we
help you make your product better & you
continuie to sell it !

I install software all the time, never have
I had such a problem, I cannot use the
product you sold me because your system
will not let me register it !   I've shut
my router firewall off, turned my software
firewall off, restored my computer from a
backup made a month ago (without Active
Home Pro installed) & then like I've done
many times before, I install the AHP
program I purchased in January - Your
registration server comes back with an
error, AHP cannot get the registration info
from your server....   Your call in support
tells me it's my firewall, your forum
response says email is a better way to
handle it, I give you my email address, I
hear nothing from you, you say you have no
problem with your registration server, I
think that is bull.   I want my software to
install & beregistered !

Send me a link to a new download file I can
install that will come up registered or let
me enter my registration info locally on my
computer like most other software products
do.   I know you want to control it via
your server.......But I want my software to
work !!!!   Help me fix it quickly or let
me get it up and working without having to
work with your registration server !

Bob Taylor: I don't know why a process that
had worked for you in the past would stop
working. Unfortunately, we have only one
registration method, so I can't send out a
new link that will work differently.

AHP will work just fine when not registered,
so you should be able to use the product,
except for plug-ins, anyway.

I know it's a little late, but I have sent an
e-mail about the problem.

I just got the email.   Your registration
service has a cap on the number of times a
user can install the software.   What a
really stupid situation - I have been
trying to tell your folks the problem is on
your end, I have spent many housrs trying
to get it to work based on their
assesment.  If the folks on the phone had a
brain they would have seen that I have
installed the software more times than the
system would allow and they would have
reset it to fix my problem.  You guys need
to grow up and act like a real technology
company, treat your customers with a little
more respect, we paid for this junk......
As I stated in my return email, I will try
the install procss again only to confirm it
is fixed.   I will not complain again about
the two days you cost me because of a
simple situation on your end.
