Camera Quality
« on: June 22, 2005, 10:34:07 PM »

I am borrowing a buddies set of cameras that
he got as a Christmas gift in 2003 and based
on my first impression of the cameras, I
won't buy any of the X10 stuff.  I guess I
have a LOT of questions because I'd like to
program a number of application using the new
SDK, but I have some lofty expectations from
the cameras themselves.  The questions I have
are as follows:
* Have the cameras gotten significantly better?
* What is the distance away and range of
sight that can be returned and still have
suitable pictures for stills?
* Is the SDK setup in such a way that one can
easily control 4 cameras at once?

Jeremy,

I’ll do my best to address some of your
questions since no one else has chimed in
yet. The X10 cameras haven’t changed
significantly over the years. They are
definitely a case of… you get what you pay
for. Most X10 cams are still the low-res
CMOS type (310 lines of resolution). CMOS
sensors are extremely sensitive to lighting
conditions and don’t make for great
surveillance cameras. Additionally, they
have a pretty narrow field of view unless
you get the wide-eye which incorporates a
fish-eye style lens (not a ture wide
angle).

X10 does offer the Vanguard which uses the
more desirable CCD sensor. I believe its
resolution is around 360 lines. I haven’t
personally tested this camera but its
received good reviews. It also costs
significantly more then the XCAM’s.

Are you asking if the AHP SDK will allow you
to switch between 4 X10 cameras or view them
at the same time? When you say control, do
you mean control the Ninja robotic mounts?
