External antenna
« on: June 29, 2005, 06:00:52 PM »

I have had my CM15A for about a month now
and am happy with the perfomance except for
the rf range. The range pretty much sucks.
My stick-a-switchs dont work unless they
are in the same room. I pluged it into an
extetion cord and mounted it about 3 feet
above the computer on the wall. This did
increase the range some but not enough.
My question is, has anyone tried the
external antenna mod with any great success?

Go to www.accessx10.com
They have a external antenna mod and
comments. As always any mods make support
and warantee from X10 void.
Try the antenna on the cm15a horizontal it
seem to add some distance as it is then
using the modules grounded pc board as a
ground plane.

Yep thats the one I was looking at. I was
just wondering how good it worked. I will
take a chance with the warranty if its a
big improvement. If its only a marginal
increase, I'll just leave it alone.

The second part of the project isn't
published yet. The construction of the
external antenna though they did have a link
to one in the message thread.
I used a WGL V752A antenna on mine as test.
It was better. The WGL all House Code
Receiver is still the best though an added
$80 aproximate cost. There is a thread on
accessx10 on the WGL also. My RR501 now that
I found the antenna coupling plate was
misinstalled has a much better range than
the cm15a's and I have three of them. Two
older one newer one. Mine sit itn theri
boxes for now. Though I have not tried them
with the latest software released.
