using X10 with 230 volts
« on: August 23, 2005, 03:10:10 AM »

I assume all systems are programmed for 110
volts, however I would be interested in using
this in Europe, where the standard voltage is
230. Is it possible to use these systems in
Europe and would X10 be able to ship them
there as well?

There are several considerations beside the
voltage: Most (if not all) European power is
50 Hz, versus 60 Hz in the USA; The legally
allotted frequency for X10 RF signals differs
between the USA and Europe; Power line plugs
and recepticles are different for the
different countries.

So the short answer to your question is No.

There are a variety of X10 products designed
for the European market, however I don't
believe a European version of the ActiveHome
Pro CM15A has yet been released. See:

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Charles is correct.  At least two manufactures make X10 equipment for Europe (X10 and ACT).

There are also articles on how to modify 110V 60Hz modules for use with 240V 50Hz at http://www.idobartana.com/hakb/index.htm

ACT sells a Coupling Transformer that allows you connect an 110V transmitter (or a low power receiver) to a 240V, 277V or 480V system.  You have to wire it in and it is only rated for 40W so it probably wouldn't be useful in too many situations.
