ActiveHomePro (AHP) and Leviton 6381 wall-switch
« on: August 27, 2005, 02:52:37 PM »

Does anyone have some experience with
ActiveHomePro (AHP) and Leviton 6381
switches? I bought two of them, but I cant
get them to work 'as expected'.
For example, if someone physically uses the
switch and sets it to about 50%, when I turn
on the light with a remote, it only turns on
to 50%. if I use a macro to set it to 50%...
it sets it to 25% (50% of 50%). What the heck
can I do?
Can I use 'extended codes' to control the
pre-dim?
Help!

Dustin: As you may know the Leviton
switches support the “resume dim” feature
which causes the light to turn on to the
last set dim level (personally I don’t like
this feature and prefer the ability to set
the on-level so that it will always turn on
to the same brightness but to each his
own).  You could use “extended codes” to
manually control the Preset Dim, but a
better option would be to change the type
of module you have it defined as in AHP.
This will cause AHP to automatically use
the Preset Dim command to turn the lamp on
to the desired level.   I would try the
Leviton dimmers first and if those don’t
work then use the X10 2-way lamp module.

FYI: There are two types of Preset Dim
commands, the old Preset Dim and the newer
Extended Dim.  The AHP software currently
only supports the Extended Dim command.
Some third party modules only support the
older Preset Dim command so you need to
take that into account when controlling
them.  Fortunately Leviton modules use the
Extended Dim command.

Dustin - get Home Seer and use their
interface.  I switched to them and
everything works great.  Don't have to
program any custom stuff, supports the
Leviton right out of the box.  Pete.
