Fooie on X-10
« on: September 16, 2005, 12:20:14 PM »

OK, I have had it. Been using my diagnostic
CM15A for about a year with pretty good
success. All of a sudden I am getting random
behavior. Lights are going on and off all
over the house. Sometimes on-off-on-off in 2
seconds. This is the fall winter dusk thing
again. Thanks X-10 for pissing me off enough
to smash this P.O.S. with a hammer and order
insteon from smarthome.

It's possible for this kind of thing to occur
as the result of a new electrical appliance
or device in the house, or something else --
it might not just be the CM15A, especially if
it's been working fine. Have you added
anything new in your house, or moved anything
around? New computer or laptop? Does this
problem happen all day, or only around
certain times? I can recall a customer who
bought a high-end dishwasher that caused his
X10 stuff to go crazy when it ran.

Diagnostic units have only been out about 6
months ...

that aside - did you try a simple clearing
the memory and reloading the program to the
CM15A?

To X10 pro, No everything is exactly the
same. No new appliences or wiring. I had not
even loaded new code. It has been running
fine and then all of a sudden random stuff.
Then I reset and reloaded, that is when it
really got bad. Now I have deleted all my
timers and shut down my transcieved house
codes to the bare minimum. I should note that
I was getting a lot on spuriour RF receives
on a phantom A but I dont have anything that
can generate an A code. Also I disabled all
of my motion sensors just in case. This thing
just plain broke on its own. I live hundreds
of yards from my nearest neighbor so I am
sure that any RF is being generated by me.

To ARF, I did not check to see how long I
have had this unit so maybe 6 months is more
accurate. I do know I was one of the first to
get one and it did make a huge improvement.
Now I am back to square one. I come home and
all my 500 watt floods are on, burning
kilowatts of energy. They go nuts at all
hours, day or night. This morning, I reloaded
and reset, came outside to go to work and all
my floods were on, Went back in, booted up
the laptop, reset it again and they went off.
What else can I say, it went nuts.

Quick Joe - your 1 year warranty should be
good a couple more days, as I think the
product was release about Sep 20 of last
year - do a warranty exchange before its
too late!  I did an exchange last week, as
I knew the calendar was about up!

Hi guys !

My CM15A stop to trigger macros et timers
suddendly after mounts of good work without
any problem.

I dont know what to do now !

I've reset the unit and redownloded macros
and timers without success.

NOW, I thing it's broken.

I dont have any new TV or PC or devices in
my home.

I do nothing without AHP until the problems
happened last night.

I'm not very happy about this situation !

IT'S NOT A TOY, it's controling electric
devices and lamps all over my house !!!

I still have both devices here (diag and
standard CM15A), I've tried the diag unit
only one time and it was not working well !

Thanks.

ARF,

Nah, I am done with X-10, why would I want to
exchange my P.O.S. for another? Check out
this anonymous guy in this thread, he has the
scam crap going on as me. Face it, the CM15A
is a bad product, insteon is that way to go.
I am Done with X10.

Anyone have any reasonable speculation as
to why, after many months, a unit would go
bonkers, and why it couldn't simply be
reprogrammed?

X10 Pro - do you have any interest in
paying for his return postage and actually
trying to figue out what went wrong with
this (or other units)?  Have you ever
actually tested any of the
returned "defective" units?
