WHERE IS THE VA11A DRIVER FOR XP ?
« on: September 23, 2005, 01:30:58 PM »

Where can the VA11A driver be found ?
--------------------------------------
iWitness plugin was downloaded,registered and
installed and is ok but NO e-mail was
received directing me to the DOWNLOAD (as per
your USB Digital Video Convertor manual)
Where can I find the driver for XP or should
I call and stay on the line for help ?

Steve,

When you installed the plug in did it not
install the driver? I think you need to have
the VA11a plugged in at the time the
iwitness plug in is installed. If you did
not and if the VA11a is not working try re-
installing the plugin but this time with the
VA11a plugged in.

Jim,
I found the VA11A driver on the X10 site.
The program is called X10Drivers.exe

When I attempt to install, the installation
tells me to connect teh VA11A, which I do,
and the driver program continues to the
finish.  The USB then reports the Intel Cam
Pro has been installed... bah...I must be
doing something wrong.   VA36A powered up and
connected to VA11A when I intall driver.
When I plug in USB port during installation
as suggested, the computer senses it and
immediately installs teh Intel Cam again...
CRAP !... What a great driver install
program..smile... I have to leave for about 2
hours shortly but will continue with this
mess after a bit... appreciate your assistance !

Steve,

You may want to try having the VA11A plugged
into your computers USB port before you
start the driver install. I know if I unplug
mine and plug it back in it will install the
Intel driver by default. If you still don’t
have this working by the time I get home
from work I will look in my notes and see if
I have anything on this that might be
useful. I know I had some initial problems
with the install but that was 6 months ago
and I have trouble remembering last week yet
alone that long ago.

SteveRF
I did a search in the knowledge base and came
up with this:
http://www.x10.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?config=kbase&restrict=&exclude=&method=and&format=short&sort=score&words=va11a
Not easy to find the answer, but hope this helps.

Steve,

Page 14 of the instruction manual explains
how to force XP to install the correct
driver. If  after following these
instructions the problem still persists the
problem may be with the USB port as
explained in the link the WinS supplied. I
did not have the problem described in the
link as my USB port was powered. I did have
to reinstall the driver only after I moved
the VA11A from one port to another and the
Intel driver installed itself by default.
Reinstalling the driver with the VA11A
plugged in forced the correct driver to
install.

Let us know how you make out…….Doesn’t
sound like a good start for you and the
cameras.

Jim,
Thanks for assistance...I followed advice on
page 14 but to my dismay..same ole thing...PC
loaded Intel Cam driver and I installed the
X10Drivers program again..all went fine and I
restarted PC.  After restart I looked at the
hardware,devices,imaging devices and there is
still only one driver showing...that darn
Intel...no VA11A... I am using the driver
listed on the X10 site as X10Drivers.exe and
noted there is another "new" one listed as
XStream.exe that is said to also contain the
VA11A driver.  I have not attempted to load
that one.  Am sitting here jsut pondering at
the moment...
WinS, I have also lloked at your link... and
am still looking.
Appreciate EVERYONES help !
Regards,
SteveRF (sitting , pondering iWitness and
that darn VA11A Driver)

Jim, WinS,
The XStream program did it... Installed the
VA11A driver without a hitch..(SO FAR)
I only have that driver listed now and will
start looking at iWitness etc to see if all
is really on the up and up... more when I see
if it is all working as advertised !

Jim and WinS
All is well !
Thanks so much for the assistance.
USB/iWitness cam control works well (so far).
The TV video has improved 100% and was due to
changing from the VR36A (Vid out only)to the
VR31A (Vid out/Coax out and audio). Using the
coax out to the TV gave me a remarkable
picture with the night vision B/W cam and the
color cams improved also.  Will be able to
tell more tomorrow during daylight.  Will
hook up to the Ninja's and see how it all
goes.  Should be able to monitor a fair pic
from the PC with the VR36 and a much improved
pic from a TV with the VR31
Many thanks for getting me on the right track
with the driver install.  Much Appreciation.

Steve,

Glad to hear that you got it working. I
think you will like the Ninja once you get
it up and running. The whole system, in my
opinion, is integrated nicely into AHP. My
only complaint is with the video quality
when viewed on a PC. I record and view all
of my video with a dedicated monitor and
VCR and that gives acceptable results. I
would be interested in what you think of
the video quality on the pc once you get it
all set up and working.  Part of my problem
is that my computer is only a Pentium
III/850 and it does not keep up with the
video stream when I try to record on the
computer so things are a little jerky.

Good luck to you and your family and hope
this current round of storms misses you.

Jim,
The Ninja has been installed and is
performing very well.  2 more cams to mount
yet.  The video quality I am receiving on the
PC with iWitness/VR36A/VA11A has much to be
desired.  I appears that I have lots  of
interference lines and I am not sure of the
source yet.  The video quality received on
the TV/via coax from the VR31A is excellent.
I swapped the small 36A and used the 31A on
the PC and it made no difference.    I
suppose that places video quality blame on
the USB/Video converter(VA11A),
Hardware/Driver and the iWitness Software.
Have not had time to get into iWitness much
but will later in the day. I am using a 1 gig
P3/Dual Processor with XP Pro/Current S/Packs.

Thanks for the thoughts concerning the
hurricane.  We are in the Gulf Shores AL area
so it missed us (Whew !)

Jim,
iWitness performing well now. Resolution,
quality and Frames per second were the
culprit.  I changed to 640 x 480, Highest
Quality and 20 FPS and Multi-Cam PC pic is
pretty good.
TV pic is good. I now have 2-CM15A's and a
TM751 in operation and am looking forward to
the internet plug-in and maybe some updates
to the AHP 3.187    I'll move future posts
concerning video over to the iWitness threads..

SteveRF,

Thanks for the information. I am glad that
you are having success with the cameras and
software. I have never been all that
excited about the video quality when viewed
on the computer but I think it is what one
would expect for the price. I use a VCR for
all of my security recording and that gives
me better results. I have never had much
luck using the computer for recording video
although the still did record nicely. I
suspect my problem is partially my slower
computer and the fact that I run two
monitors on it.

I think you will like the Internet plug in
once it is released. It seems to be
progressing nicely but there are still a
few bugs that need to be worked out.
