Just wanted to post my status. I'm only 2
weeks into X10 (newbie), but I pretty quickly
became frustrated with RF problems.
I started by pretty much skipping the CM15A
and going with a Stanley Transceiver that I
had sitting around. This worked GREAT if I
only had direct cmds (no macros) and I used
the CM15A for TIMERS. In fact, the Stanley
Transceiver is much faster in response than
the CM15A.
Started having problems when I tried to
create some simple macros. Crazy, random
results. I guess the Stanley Transceiver and
the CM15A weren't communicating very effectively.
So, frustrated, and really wanting to get
into using macros, I ditched the Stanley
Transceiver, and went back to the CM15A.
Arrgh, the range sucks. Using Palm Pad is
so-so. But, the stick switches is a joke.
I've read the many threads regarding
improving the range of the CM15A. Since it
is after midnight right now, a trip to the
Shack is not really an option. So, I went
with option #2. I just opened the box and
pull the antenna straight; extending the wire
outside the CM15A box. For now, I just taped
it to the wall (horizontal). For those
interested, the wire was looped, and NOT
bunched up. Purchased about 2 weeks ago.
This alone seems to have added about 50% to
the range. My house is 3300 sqft. The CM15A
is pretty much center located, first floor.
And, I can almost get all the way to my
Master Bedroom; second floor, 30-40 ft from
center. With the Stick Switch I get about
75% performance. With the Palm Pad, I get
almost 100% from this range.
I'm looking forward to building a super
antenna and getting full range from stick
switches. I bought 7 of them for $35 last
week. <grin>
