Concered about buying another CM15A
« on: December 30, 2005, 09:09:34 PM »

I have a simulated sunrise macro that runs
for 39 mins.  I have an old cm15a prior to
all bugs being discovered.  My cm15a locks
up any micro that goes longer than ~15mins.

QUESTION:
Has X-10 fixed this problem?

My warranty has passed and I'm looking at
possibliy buy another CM15a.  The current x-
10 deal is $49 with ALL plugins.  However, I
don't want to buy another just to have the
same problems that I have to today.

Today's problem:
Battery reset (locks up "~30 days" to the
point that I need to remove batteries and
reload macros and timers)

Only short macro work.

Can anyone whom has recently purchase a
cm15a seen that x-10 has overcome these
problems?

Concerned,

Scott,
I purchased my first CM15A in Dec 2004.  It
was a disaster.  It would not run reliably
for more than a few days. I received a
replacement in Mar 2005.  My current CM15A
runs for months without any problems.  Of
course, there will always be a few "glitches"
here and there but for the most part it runs
quite well.  The $49.00 deal seems to be a
great bargain and you can use the old one to
monitor "stuff".  Wish I had waited for this
deal instead of purchasing the iWitness
plugin... smile..

I purchased my original in Nov 04 and it
works for about 30 days then locks up.  I’m
in the routine of pulling the batteries and
rebooting the CM-15A.  I should have
returned it, but I was afraid of getting a
bigger dog than the one I had.

Lately, I have been looking at the original
Smarthome and their new Insteon, but the AHP
has more pros.  My problem is the major con
of the CM15A being UNSTABLE.  I want X-10 to
get this right because I think they could
have a great product if they could build a
stable CM15A.  Software updates are ok, but
I think most of the problem is in the
hardware.

With all that being said, I would like some
feedback from people that have purchased a
CM15A lately.

Have had mine for 2 weeks, and no
problems.  It didn't like another
transceiver that I have on the line, so I
took it out.  Instead I increased the range
of the CM15A with an antenna mod.  Can be
found at accessha.com forums.  OVerall, no
major problems with the CM15A, and it's
operation.  Still have a small system
though.  Still building.

I don't see the ALL plug-ins sale that you
are talking about.  $49 is the CM15A AHP
without smart macros, iWitness, mYHouse.

Scott T,

THANKS MUCH!!!

I checked the link, and it worked.

I paid the $49 just 20 days ago, and didn't
get the plug-ins.  I got shorted.  I've
sent the return dept a request for the plug-
ins and/or an RMA# for return.

Just sending me the plug-ins saves both of
us the shipping.  So, hopefully, they will
honor it.

Most companies will honor stuff like this
in the first 30 days.  I remember once, I
bought a Gateway, then the price on the
computer dropped (within 30 days).  I
called them, and they sent the check for
the differences.  That is solid Customer
Service.  Nobody wants to deal with
unnecessary returns.  Hopefully X10 follows
suit..

Guys, who did you contact about getting the
other software modules?  I JUST purchased my
CM-15A a few days ago and like two days
afterward got an email about the free
software module deal.

I am on my 3rd CM15A (other 2 were warranty
returns), and though this one is better, it
still is not as stable as my trusty old
CM11A.  While I could see spending $49 for
the CM15A as a hobby for someone who likes
to tinker, I cannot recommend the product
for someone who wants a functional,
RELIABLE system that they can turn on,
program, and forget about.

I sent an online mail to customer service,
returns.  And, also I called them.  The
cust serv dept is not open, but sales was.
I talked to a cool guy in sales, and he
felt that I should be able to get the plug-
ins, but he couldn't do it.  Said I should
call cust service after the weekend.

Our request is legit for sure.  They should
be able to honot it..

UPDATE to getting plug-ins:  I talked to
Cust Serv this morning.  They gave me the
plug-ins without even batting an eye.  Only
thing I had to do was give them the SKU #
for the "special".

I AM impressed with X10s customer service.
This is something that they could have
definitely dragged their feet on.  But,
they didn't.

Fortunately for X10, these plug-ins give me
more options for my system, which will
require more hardware.  Probably the
motivation for giving the plug-ins for
FREE!!

I've only been at this for 3 weeks, but I
am VERY impressed with this company so
far.  And, YES, I would definitely
recommend the CM15A, especially with the
plug-ins offer.  That was my opinion even
before they "came though for me" on this
special.

let us know in 3 months if you are actually
happy with the PERFORMANCE of the CM15A!

What attracted most of us is what $49.99
gets you...of course you get what you pay
for...

Will keep updated!

Some issues that I've already run into, but
pretty much solved (or have plans to solve).

1.  Problems with motion sensor not always
getting signal to CM15A.  I know that this
is because of RF interference from my PC.
The PC is located between the Sensor and
CM15A.  Plan is to move the CM15A and/or
the antenna to a better location away from
the PC.

2.  Problems with macros getting confused,
and/or locking up the AHP.  Couple of
problems have been error on my part.  Such
as accidentally sending ON signal, then
wondering why it wasn't turning OFF.  Duh!
3.  Had problem when using a Stanley
Tranceiver to collect the RF.  No problems
with direct signals.  But, macros ran like
crap.  Decided instead to work on extending
the antenna range of the CM15A, and removed
the Stanley Tranceiver.
4.  I DID do the antenna mod, and it made a
huge difference.  Can't wait to get the
antenna relocated to a better location,
like the attic.
