Hi,
Does anyone know what logic or codes are use
in creating the names of the directories
where video is saved?
My video save directory is 'MyImages\Video'.
When I search for the video I just captured
it is in 'MyImages\Video\XM2XA\XD2XA2\'. The
strange directory names make it hard to
locate the video.
Do the names have any logicical connection
to the real world (such as date codes)?

have not done much vid saving.  Maybe we will

That WAS a good question.  It was so much fun
solving I won't spoil your fun.  Here's a clue:
Think base 36 and GMT time.

If an example image name is: XF2XA8K0Y0B002.AVI
The fifth character is "A".  In base 36 that
equates to "10" (Base 36=0...9,A...Z). That
is the month (October).
The sixth character is "8".  That is the day
of the month.
The seventh character is the GMT hour (K=20).
The eighth and nineth are combined to form
the GMT minute with the first column being
worth 36 and the second column being worth 1
(0Y= [(36x0)+(1x34)]=34).
The tenth and eleventh characters are the GMT
second (0B= [(36x0)+(1x11)]=11).
So, the image was taken on October eighth at
20:34:11 GMT.
I don't know what the last three digits are
(maybe camera number?)or the first four
characters (which should be the year but
don't compute).  In any case, this is no help
in solving your problem.  X10 can, however,
make the simple conversion and file the
images in date and time format if they choose
to.  And we all wish they would.

Like you, I'm slightly fluent in binary,
decimal, octal, and hexadecimal.  But, until
today, never saw a use for base 36 (whatever
that's called).  It dawned on me that if all
the single characters (numbers and letters
only) are used they total 36 (0...9 and
A...Z)= 10+26=36.  Hey, why not use that for
something?  As a puzzle this was quite
amusing.  See if you can determine the year
or what the last three digits are for..I have
to rest now, my head hurts.

Thanks for that bit of detective work.

Sorry for the delay in answering, I was busy
looking for a video file, har har.

I have worked with software engineers in the
past and have even done a bit of C++ and
Assembly level programming.

I don't believe that I would have ever
figured that one out though. If you think
about it, it does makes sense, no chance of
duplicate file names,... ever. I get the
idea that they 'started' out trying to
conform to the old DOS 8.2 file naming
convention. How they got where they are now
is probably a case of too many programmers
hacking on one piece of code.

I hope they find time to fix it. That is not
a real good selling point for the software.

Last 3 seem to identify the cameras but does
not relate to s/n. Mine are 60X,60Y,60Z or
7809,7810 and 7811 in base 36.  Cute naming
convention but totally unusable to me.
