Can't get VA11A drivers to install in WIndowsXp:
« on: July 09, 2005, 02:55:36 PM »

Although WindowsXp recognizes that a USB
device is connected to my computer I can't
get the drivers to instal no matter what I
do.  Installed the software while the VA11A
was connected and tried to reinstall the
driver from device manager, even pointing
to the the x10 driver install directory.
Can anyone help?

John: If the VA11A is enumerating properly in
Windows, it will be displayed as Intel PC
Camera Pro or X10 VA11A in Device Manager. If
it consistently appears as "Unknown Device"
or "USB Device" with an exclamation mark,
please contact technical support for an exchange.

This is how I have gotten the driver to work
correctly:
1) Install the VA11A driver
2) Plug in device
3) Restart windows, it will say Intel PC cam
4) With device still plugged in, re-install
the VA11A drivers it should now use the X-10
drivers.

I had the same trouble. Uninstall,
reinstall, etc. Finally, I just rebooted,
then unplugged the VAllA and replugged it
and XP found new device and installed it
properly and its been working great since.

I spent a couple of hours getting this to
work on my first install of the VA11 with XP
home. I followed the advice to change the
intel camera driver to the VA11 driver and
that seemed to work but when I rebooted the
computer insisted I had new hardware. After
trying and failing to get it to work when I
manually selected the VA11 driver again, I
let it auto select and install drivers for
the VA11 and a sound device that also wanted
to be installed.  It seems to be ok now and
I can display camera video.

So what worked for me was plugging it in,
let it install intel camera, changing driver
to VA11, rebooting, finding new hardware,
allowing windows to auto install new device
drivers (one of which I assume was the same
VA11 driver that I had already installed).

Certainly not plug and play but it can be
beaten into working.
