Getting started with MyHouse Online
« on: January 15, 2006, 07:11:00 PM »

I've got the software, configured users and
allegedly sent out emails.

In reality in spite of emailing multiple
times after configuring users (It says it
emails anyway.), I have yet to receive one
email yet!

What's happening and how do I get it to
really email?

and another question,
If we purchase the MyHouse plugin:
1.Can I set up more than ONE remote user ?
2.Can each remote user have pre-defined
restrictions? i.e. I may want someone to be
able to view Cam 1 and 2 and NOT cam 3 and
NOT be able to turn on devices in the house.
-OR-
BE able to view CAMS and NOT activate house
devices.
-OR-
View Only ?

3. What other restrictions can the "Owner"
apply to the logins ?

SteveRF:
With the exception of the multiple cameras,
the online manual appears to indicate you
can setup lots of different levels of
restrictions. See online manual.

Now if I could just get the basics working.

X10 is a great product when it works!
You just have to understand it is *NOT* a
plug & play product for the average person.

Turns out my firewall (Norton) was
preventing the emails from being sent. Now
I need to figure out how to configure
Norton without leaving the firewall off.

Now that I've received the email all I get
is a black screen when I try to login.

Steven R
http://myhouse.x10.com/ requires an activeX
scripting to be enabled.
If you're using a browser other than IE, it
probably won't work.
If using IE, look for a small white box,
maybe with an X in it like an image file
can't be displayed.  Click on that and you
should get a msg having to do with ActiveX.
If you enable that, you should be able to get
into your remote ... or the server is just
down again.
Let the fun begin ... or not!
Good luck.

Rich,
You might have everything set up ok but may
be having firewall issues.  Are you behind a
firewall at work?  You might have to contact
your IT guy to help.  If you have a router at
home, or are running a firewall there, you
may have to open up a port on the router or
software ... or X10's server may be down again.
Maybe check out http://homedomination.com/
for an alternative.  Not as pretty as MyHouse
but does have one significant advantage ...
it works.

Still just getting a black screen when I
try to login!
Login screen is all black! I even moved the
mouse all over the screen to see if there
might be some hidden place to click.
No luck!

Rich,
If you read the post on "what ports"
apparently X10 is aware of this issue and is
in the process of fixing it ... or not!
Seems like it would be better to take their
server out of the picture and let us access
our systems directly.  Maybe they'll come out
with a new program called "YourHouse" that we
can get for another $50 ... it's a disgrace.

I think Winston Churchill stated that
"You can fool some of the people all the
time, and all the people some of the time,
but you can't fool all of the people all of
the time"  I think X10 is trying their best
to disprove that statement.

I am pretty dissatisfied with the whole
thing.  I think I was misled.  They should
have asked me if I had a 2.4G Phone and that
there would be interference if I did.  There
Macros software isn't easy to use if you ask
me.  The provide no step by step
instructions.  I could go on and on about
their Customer service...........but I
wont.  I think they have a good concept
going, but need to define it more and work
out the bugs.

Just installed the last plugin -MyHouse Online
When I click a camera on it freezes my mouse.
Therefore I cannot change any views or anything.
I found that if I disconnect the video
receiver from computer it frees up the mouse.
What is happening!!!!  All other plug ins
have worked fine untill this one.

Byron B: Are you using a USB mouse? Is this
on your main AHP computer, or an a remote
browser? If it's on the main AHP computer, it
sounds like a problem with USB bandwidth and
the USB video capture adapter. Do you have
another bank of USB ports you can move the
USB capture adapter to?
