Smart Macro E-Mail Hoax?
« on: November 12, 2004, 06:48:19 PM »

I received an e-mail yesterday from
Michael  Cole at x10 offering the Smart
Macros pulg-  in for free.  There no
response to me  replying...send the plug-
in.    So is it a hoax?

I am confused about the availability of the
conditional macro plug-in.  When I got the
original "preferred customer" advance notice
for Active Home Pro, the advertisement
offered future enhancements for conditional
macros and web camera control as no-cost
downloads in the near future.  Now I see
some people referring to $49 offers and
others referring to free offers.  I have not
received any emails on the macro plug-in nor
have I seen any advertisement on the x10
site or in the daily spam newsletter.  Where
is this information coming from??  What IS
the story??

I am going to be highly annoyed if x10
expects me to pay for a plug-in that was
indicated as "free" from the start -
particularly after having gone through hell
trying to get the basic AHP to work over the
last month.  None of my original 40+ timers
and 6 macros worked until I re-entered all
timers and reduced the macros from 6 to 1.
Now I only have to reload the system every
few days to make it work.  In response to a
forum request from "X10 Pro", I submitted a
detailed report on my experience by eamil,
however, there was never even the courtesy
of a simple acknowledgement or "thanks" for
my offer to provide copies of any files
needed to resolve/improve the situation.  I
would think that at a minimum, the basic
plug-ins that were initially offered should
be provided at no cost to those of us who
are pulling our hair out over this
revolutionary product.

Can someone tell me how to get to the plug-
in's. It keeps sending me to a web page
selling the AHP? this is annoying since I
can't find it and my email says it's
available???

Got my software download e-mail form. It
contains 2 links, both for SW31A.

Tried both, but no conditional macros.

??????????

I'm with Jeff on this one. I got the same
email with 2 links and 2 registration
numbers. I've installed but when I try to
register, it hangs trying to contact X10.

:-(

Jeff,
I can confirm your experience.  I downloaded
the two files and went through the
installation procedure, but there's no
indication that the Smart Macro plugin is
installed.

Note: Even though the two files have
different names, they compare as identical
when I do a binary file comparison.

I received the same email with two SW31A
links.

I called tech support and they didn't know
anything about the Michael Cole email.  He
explained that Tim, the morning supervisor,
won't be in until later this morning and
suggested to call back later.

I'm NOT suggesting that we all call,
especially now that we know we all received
the same email.  I imagine that something
got coded wrong in the mass order
rejuvenation.  I'm going to hangin there and
I’m sure we will all get another email
soon.  However, I wouldn’t count on this
until Monday, its not like they are going to
pay someone overtime to get out all the free
plug-ins software.

The links in the email are identical.  Can
someone please confirm what my tires old eyes
are telling me?

When you download anything from either link,
the filename changes.  I tried both once,
then one of them a second time to coordinate
the files I received with the links to make
sure of my sequence (in case it mattered).
The third time, a new filename was indicated
which I didn't bother to download.

What I believe I've learned from this is that
it's POSSIBLE that the link provided in the
email is simply repeated in error, and you
get a random filename at every download.

The question then remains, why two
registration codes in the email, and which is
for what?

Ken,
My suspicion is that the Conditional plugin
registration has to match the AHP
registration.

X10 can't necessarily match up the original
AHP registration with the email address used
for posts to these Forums, so trys to install
a new copy of AHP with a new registration
code to go along with the plugin.

Charles; of course, that certainly makes sense.

But, I launched both the downloaded packages
to see them install and then started AHP
again.  I have yet to be asked for a
registration code, despite the instructions:
"Enter the registration code(s) into the
appropriate box, when you run the software
for the first time."

I'm still playing with it to see what I can
cause to happen.

to get to the registration code..
Along the top menu is PLUGINS
When you click there SMART MACROS should
display in the drop-down menu.
Beside that is Register Now.
Put in your Registration # there.

I get no response here, only "Contacting
X10".

Thanks very much Gary.

"SMART MACROS should display in the drop-down
menu.  Beside that is Register Now."

I don't see that.  Mmmmm.  I must have done
something wrong.

Don't know if this pertains to your
situation, but I ordered the $49 plug in
upgrade w/ sensors.  Received the package
without software or any activation email.

Contaced X10 support by phone, they sent
out an email along with registration code
(that corresponded to my plug-in order #)
and an attached 112KB file that I executed
once.  It ran a download and installer, then
started up AHP program, which on startup
produced a 'plug in installed' message
prompting me to enter the plug-in
registration code.  I did this and
received 'registration not found'.  Called
support again, they told me to wait 5 hours
or possibly overnight since their system
showed the registration was pending.  Tried
several more times last night, same result.
Note that if registration fails, you are
presented with 'cancel' and 'finish' options.
Cancel seemed to do nothing; finish cleared
the registration prompt window and allowed
regular use of the program.  At that point
you could use the 'Plug In' menu bar option
to select a 'Register now' tab if you wanted
to retry the online registration.

Tried again this morning, this time
registration was accepted.  Now if you try
to add a 'macro' with the plug in
successfully installed, you get a splash
screen with new conditional macro creation
options. Though I haven't done much other
than create a simple time-window conditional
macro, it's looking good so far.

Sorry Everyone,
I was getting the original Conditional
Macros listed under plugins (which doesn't
work anymore). I deleted the plugin and now
I'm in the same boat as everyone else with
no Cond Macro menu.
ahp_plugin.xml is installed in the folder
but that's it.
