AHP 3.175 permanently broken on my system.
« on: December 21, 2004, 11:14:16 AM »

I started having startup crashes only with
AHP 3.174 (previous installation was 3.172)
but I could recover by rerunning the 3.174
updater. (Each run of the updater was good
for one execution of AHP).

After updating to 3.175 I was able to run AHP
one time.  Since then I get "Run DLL as an
App" startup crashes and rerunning the 3.175
updater doesn't help.

I'm running under Win XP Pro SP1

Charles, in the root directory of the disk
you installed AHP on, you will find a file
named 'x10net.log'.  If you would please
email that to 'ahpsupport@x10.com' we'll
try and identify the problem.  Please
include the .ahx file you are using as well.

Thanks,
AHP Support

Hello X10, glad you could join the party!
Guess what?  The GPF is caused by a really
nasty resize bug.  Do not attempt to
persist the size of the window as you
clearly don't understand how to restore it
properly!  Just remove the code that
restores the Window position and you may
just remove the GPF...

Of course there are likely other issues
that cause GPF's.  I don't see them too
often but when they happen I usually have
to uninstall/reinstall the miserable
thing.  I try to avoid running the thing at
all as it is usually full of surprises (and
I don't like surprises in software.)

Seems I am getting ahp.exe caused a fatal
error or something to that effect after
installing 3.175 upgrade.  (winME) Was
looking at desktop icon.  deleted because
it appears it was from an old install, used
one in ahp program folder.  (should not be
loading the rundll is this correct ?)
Next I will try that installer update see
if that helps.  other wise I need to figure
out how to uninstall and reinstall again.
what link do I use to reinstall ???
HELP !

Update to my original message:
After a lot of unsuccessfully installing and
reinstalling AHP 3.175, I renamed the
rundll32.exe file in c:\Program Files\Common
File\X10\Common and replaced it in that
folder with a copy of the rundll32.exe from
c:\WINDOWS\system32.

Now AHP 3.175 starts without crashing and
seems to be running OK. (This is under Win XP
Pro SP1.)

Thanks to Donald McMow for the tip.

Another update:
Just for the heck of it I restored the
original X10 version of rundll32.exe in
c:\Program Files\Common Files\X10\Common

AHP 3.175 still works.  Go figure!

BTW, when I originally replaced the X10
version of rundll32.exe with the one from c:
\WINDOWS\system32, I was forced to re-
register AHP 3.175 and the Smart Macro
plugin.  I didn't have re-register after
restoring X10's version of rundll32.exe.
