Cannot leave module connected to computer
« on: January 03, 2005, 11:12:08 PM »

Well I haven't had a CM15a failure in weeks
since I started disconnecting it from my
computer.  However, the damn thing doesn't
seem to be able to keep time!  My timers
have been coming on earlier over the past
few days - first one hour early, then two.
It seems to be exactly an hour at a time.

I connected the module to update it, and
got busy and never detached it.  Tonight,
the CM15a stopped responding to RF triggers
for macros - exactly the problem I was
having before.

My computer automatically "goes to sleep"
after 15 minutes of inactivity, and I
strongly suspect this is part of the
problem.

I don't understand how there could be a
problem with the module keeping time!  The
circuitry needed to keep time must cost
about 15 cents!

Could even be the Acvtivity Log. If it can't
dump it's findinds and over runs the memory.
Who knows what may happen.

I can't unconnect mine reliably.  It has to
be coupled to the computer to maintain
timer functions.  Still, I have to
routinely check for signal storms, and
unplug the CM15A when they don't stop by
themselves.  Otherwise, nice MMI.  There
are several levels of software issues here
to fix.  It would be nice if X10 posted a
current list of issues being reviewed, and
some order of priority so we could
understand what is taking so long to
address our concerns.  Everyone seems to
have some common issues, but there also are
sets of conditions that apply to certain
folks, and not all (i.e. Leviton HCA02
compatibility, Macro phantom executions,
etc)

Anyone care to guess what is getting
current priority?  For that matter, has
anyone got one that works for more than a
few days (timers and all!)

happyras:

When I disconnect mine I use the Win
XP "Safely Remove Hardware" wizard first,
and then unplug the USB cable.  I don't
actually move the CM15a (i.e. I don't
disconnect it from the power).  All my
timers and macros work (last time for about
3 weeks) except that after a while the
timers started coming on 1 hour earlier.

I would prefer to leave my module connected
so I can easily change my program, but for
me this seems to be unreliable.

Does your computer sleep?
