Problems with software
« on: March 25, 2005, 09:24:56 PM »

X10 Pro.
I received my CM15A about a week and a half
ago, after being on back order so I don't
know what version I have.  But here are the
problems I've found.

I am running win 2000 server  --  AHP
3.183  --  SmartMarcos 3.183.

I was putting the finishing touches on a
complex macro which had been working for a
while.  Then strange things started
happening.  So I cleared CM15A memory and
downloaded program.  No change.  I've
cleared memory 6 times and downloaded
again,  still strange problems.  I deleted
the complex macros and created a simple
macro that rings a chime, no conditions
set.  Chime does not work.  Last ditch
effort, I unplugged the CM15A from computer
and AC power and remove batteries.
Everything is working again.

I think that the clear CM15A memory routine
is not clearing all the memory.  If it was
then I shouldn't have to remove the
batteries.  Is this something being looked
at to fix.

Another problem I have is in the reports
section, status, view flags set does not
work.  I view the status and see flags
1,9,15,16 are set.  I creat a macro to
clear all flags and view the report again
and I get the same results, flags 1,9,15,16
set.  Is this a known problem.

Please respond.
Thanks,
Tony

Tcassio:  From what I can tell, the clear
memory command only erases the EEPROM.  It
does not erase the RAM or reset the CPU.
Both of these are only done when unplugging
the unit with the batteries removed (which
obviously won't affect the EEPROM).  If the
CM15a was acting a little crazy, but not
enough to trigger the watchdog timer
(assuming it is being used) then clearing
the memory won’t help you at all.  It would
be nice if the clear memory did erase the
RAM and reset the CPU.

Tcassio: Roger H is right: using the clear
interface memory function only clears the
stored data.

I think I know what the flag status problem
is, and will see if we can have it fixed in
the next update.

One more thing: if the problem is what I
think it is, the flags are functioning
correctly in the interface, as far as being
set and cleared, and tested by conditional
macros. The problem is only with reporting
their status in the report.

X10Pro,
You are correct.  The flags do work, its
the status report that is not working.
Don't you think that with all the flakey
problems that this SW/HW has, you would
reset everything in the clear memory
routine to make life easier for thoes of us
who are acting as X10 beta testers.  I say
this because a product such as this that
has so many problems was released before it
was ready. Under these circumstances tech
support is crucial in keeping "PAYING
CUSTOMERS" happy.  I am really discussted
with the lack of support that exists within
the X10 company. I don't mean to take this
out on you X10Pro, but you are the onlyone
who responds.  Several phone calls and a
half a dozen emails over a two week period
and no response from anyone.  However I do
receive a lot of emails promoting X10
equipment.

Thanks,
Tony

Update,
I just received a replacement CM15A, and
now the status flags are showing up in the
Status monitor report.  Go figure.
