Problems with Macros on v3.183
« on: April 13, 2005, 05:13:55 PM »

I have been experiencing problems with
macros.  Please take a look at this:  I
have a very simple macro on C2 On.  When is
triggered it should turn on the sprinklers
(C1), wait for 5 minutes (delay = 5 min)
and then turn them off.  After that I have
a “security off” with a 30 seconds delay
(just to ensure that Off signal is
transmitted twice to avoid running the
sprinklers forever).   I have similar
macros with 10 minutes delay on C3 On and
15 minutes delay on C4 On.  Well, every
time I trigger any of those macros that
are “stored in the interface”, it will turn
the sprinklers on but it will not turn them
off.  Even worse, after that the interface
becomes kind of cycled, so everything stops
working and no more macros can be triggered
by any way (manually nor automatically
using timers).  I am really tired of this
situation because always is something not
working properly with this system.  I have
had many other problems with this software,
and basically I have solved most of them
looking the threads in this forum, so your
help will be much appreciated.

I am running AHP 3.183 with SmartMacros
module under Windows XP Home Edition SP2
environment.  Any ideas about what is going
wrong here?  Is it a bug in the software or
my interface is defective?  Thanks!!!

I'm not sure if this will help
(and it might not even be the problem),
but it wouldn't hurt to check.

I couldn't reliably reproduce these
results, so I haven't reported it as
a problem yet, and some is just speculation.

Check to see if you have any of your
modules defined as "2 way modules".
I had a module incorrectly defined as
2-way, and I noticed that the CM15 would
"appear" to lock up after sending it a
command.  My SPECULATION is that it COULD
be waiting for a response back from the
2-way module before it moves on to something
else.  But again, that's just speculation.

I also noted some odd/unexpected behavior
in macros, particularly when I REDEFINED
the MODULE TYPE several times.  I couldn't
reproduce it myself, but deleting the MODULE
first, then recreating it, and then deleting
the STEP in the macro and recreating it
seemed to fix the problem.  (Obviously
with a SAVE and DOWNLOAD after you're done.)

Hope this helps.

Tigger,

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
I double checked that any of my modules
were configured as 2-Way.  So at least this
suspected source of problem is discarded
for sure.  About redefining the module
type, I have not change it at all since
this universal module was installed from
the first time.

Other thing that may contribute with the
problem is the so called bug found on the
interface itself.  More information about
this topic is included on the ATTENTION:
Good batch of CM15A's!! thread on the
general conversations forum.  In order to
be positive sure on this, I would need to
test one of those CM15A from the good batch
or at least one of those known
as “diagnostic units” (Can we do so X10???)

Thanks again for your valuable help on this
matter.

jdelapena: if you send your .AHX file to
ahpsupport@x10.com I'll take a look and see
if I can identify where things aren't working.

OK X10 Pro.  It’s done.  It should be in
your inbox by now. Thanks in advance for
your help.

I also have a macro problem that I was able
to replicate in AHP (with Smart Macros).

Current Macro “Upstairs Bathroom Auto On”
(works fine)

Remote Sensor G13 triggers (G13 On),
bathroom light G1 turns On. Only condition,
has to be between 7:30 am and 11:00 pm.

Macro “Upstairs Bathroom Auto Off”

Remote Sensor G13 triggers (G13 Off after 1
minute) bathroom light G1 turns Off. No
condition.

Last night I wanted to add another
validation step for my On macro to check on
the status of a bedside lamp module (time
interval + bedside lamp module A15 Off = Run
Macro). This lamp module is part of my
monitored House Code (A). So changed the On
macro, added the module status validation
and downloaded.

2/2...

Did some extensive testing and the result is
the same each time for the following steps:

-Lamp module A15 Off, enter bathroom, light
turns On, Off after 1 minute – Yes!
-Lamp module A15 On enter bathroom, light
does not turn On, remains Off – perfect!
-Lamp module A15 Off, enter bathroom, light
turns On, but no longer turns Off after 1
minute!

So I then decided to use flags as follows:

-New Macro A15 On, turns bedside lamp On
(now changed for house and unit E7), Set
Flag 10.
-New Macro A15 Off, turns bedside lamp Off
(now changed for house and unit E7), Clear
Flag 10.

I then modified my “Upstairs Bathroom Auto
On” to add the extra validation step of
checking if Flag 10 is cleared.

Guess what, everything works fine! The
bathroom light now turns Off after 1 minute
all the time!

Any ideas?

I'm new to X10, but have been around
technology for a long time.   I very much
appreciate this forum and have used info
from it to get my system working.  I too
have uncovered some significant problems.
My specifics are 14 modules 2 phantom
modules (to work around software problems),
13 macros and 7 timers.  I have a March
15th CM15A with 05C10 sticker and AHP 3.183
with Smart Macros running on XP with SP-1.

The first problem is repeatable and
strange.  A simple macro is triggered at
dusk to initialize my system.  Specifically
and in order from first to last, it (1)
dims a 467 wall switch on C3 to 1%, (2)
turns off a 2-way 14A lamp module on C1,
(3) dims another 467 on C4 to 40% and then
sets and clears some flags.  This macro
work fine until I try and add another
module.  I added another 467 on C8 to dim
to 50% after (3) and before the flags.
When executed from either the computer or
the interface C7 does not respond.  Instead
a 467 on C5 dims to 50%.  The Activity
Monitor indicates that a C7 On and Dim to
50% was sent, but the module on C5 responds.

What is more interesting if I move the new
module above (3) so that the module on C4
is the last module on the list, that module
does not respond.  However, the module on
C7 turns on and dims appropriately and the
module on C5 turns on and dims to 40%.
While the Activity Monitor show that a C4
On and Dim to 40% was sent.

I have cleared the interface, removed the
batteries loaded and reloaded this program
and this condition persists.  Has anyone
else had this problem??

Any news about this problem X10 Pro?  What
about the diag unit?  I just experienced
the problem today AGAIN.  Just ran the
macro to have the sprinklers on 5 minutes…
and they did not shut off after the 2 “OFF”
commands included in the macro.  Interface
locked up and EVERYTHING stopped working.
It is really frustrating.  Wife Acceptance
Factor is going down really fast.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem,
but since the upgrade, I can't get the
activehome unit to recognize anything that
comes from my mini-infrared unit.  I used
to be able to get my IR remote to trigger
macros, and now that doesn't work AT ALL.
None of my button presses are showing up in
the activity monitor either?!
