This has happened to me twice now! once with
my original unit and recently with the
diagnostic unit  With the diagnostic unit it
wouldn't let me clear the interface. It
showed that the interface could be updated
but once I used a remote or clicked on a
module in AHP I'd get the error that it
couldn't communicate with the USB device.
And it would fail to get diagnostic info
pulling the batteries, unpluging,
rebooting,and restoring the batteries would
not cure this. My other unit would work fine
so it wasn't the Software. The Cure!: Here's
the kicker you need another PC with AHP on
it.This maybe why X10 has so many returns
that work when they test them. As soon as I
plug the problem unit into another pc I was
able to clear the interface and the errors
dissapeared. I placed it back on the other
PC and it now works there.
I know you'll say it was the PC. Wrong I've
had it happen on another PC.
OK it's the OS! Wrong one was running 98 the
other XP Pro.
X10 Pro any ideas? Is this a known Bug?

Same problem with the CM11A running on XP. I
have had two interfaces do the same thing.
X10 tech support tells me it is service pack
2 related; microsoft says hogwash. If I leave
my PC idle for more than 2 hours, I lose
communications to my interface. No hibernate
or standby involved.

Part of the problem could be a line voltage
spike that is getting through to the
processor in the units and screwing things
up.

Low quality software usually blames
Microsoft for their own stupidity.
XP service pack 2 is basically a completely
new version of XP, very secure system; the
problem is with many software (AHP
included) do not follow proper guide line.
I had no problems with XP and SP2 installed
until my computer died, I replaced with a
new one and my nightmare started, many
program started to crash, some in the “blue
screen of death”; with service pack 2
microsoft has introduced a new security
feature called DEP(Data Execution
Prevention), in older computer only the
software portion is implemented , in new
computer (like mine) there is else Hardware
DEP, this will stop any software that steps
out of line.The only way I was able to stop
some programs from crashing( including AHP,
Autocad 2002, Nikon Capture ………)was to
enable DEP for all program then add the bad
apples to the exempt list.
Of course the best way to solve all AHP
problem is to return it to X10 for a full
refund and get a reliable product like the
1132CUP.

Donald:
That makes sense. But I think the first time
I experiaced this I had both units connected
only one failed.Any Idea why it can only be
fixed by using a different P.C.?

Sometimes it all comes down to how the
equipment is designed - the power supply,
noise suppression, and voltage regulation,
could also be caused by one phase of the
house power. The same flucuation could also
cause non-apperent problems on your
computer as well. It could also be a change
in the USB signal lines that causes
problems with one computer and not the
other. I am grasping at straws here - I
really don't have a clue why it would
affect one computer and not the other.
