Internet Radio: Using Live Web Cams
« on: November 09, 2004, 10:37:15 AM »

Located at http://access.crismond.com/radio

I have two cameras setup in the front and
rear of my house.  The rear camera is color,
while the front camera is a black and white
night cam.  In the evening, the night cam
will transmit using a 40 watt bulb just
above where the camera is aimed(my front
door).  I've setup the webpage using Media
Services, Windows Encoder and Windows Media
Player on a Windows 2000 Server.  I
installed Windows Media Services and
downloaded and installed Windows Encoder
from Microsoft.  So what's the magic?
Windows Media Services will stream the audio
and video.  Windows Encoder provides the
stream file.  Basically, it creates an asf
file that is setup in Media Services to
stream as a broadcast.  Instead of using the
audio from the camera, I use Media Player as
the audio source, so whatever is playing on
the Media Player, get streamed as audio.
This is not an easy setup, but it is live.
As I mentioned, you must have a Server
Operating System and have both Media
Services and Windows Encoder to accomplish
this.  If you have all the components
downloaded and installed and want to know
specifics, email me at your convenience.
PS. only the center Cam is a live view, the
other views are local webcams in my area
that are uploading a photo every five
seconds.  The lower photos of family and
friends are static.
