Poor Quality Video Commander 1&2 Part 2
« on: August 31, 2005, 03:09:18 PM »

Chinese absolutely have the poorest quality
of any country in the world!!!! And no I'm
not a raciest, I love Taiwanese products!!
It’s just that it so much corruption in the
Chinese government with basically no worker
rights child labor criminal labor forced
labor ect well you get the idea. Everyone is
running to China because of the cheep labor
when will they learn you get what you pay
for!!! I’m just about had it with the poor
quality of some of these products. I’ve
already paid a fortune is shipping costs and
x10 has to be losing money on all the
returns they must be receiving. X10 has some
very innovative products some actually
cutting edge but there going to have to
improve their quality remain competitive. To
x10 credit though I will go on record as
saying I was amazed at the actually very
good quality of the cameras now if that
could just spill over into the rest of the
product line.

I fail to see the actual point of your
post. The chinese government has nothing to
do with X10 performance. If you like the
product ,,use it if not then send it back
and be done with it. I have had some lousy
products from Walmart , but I don't go
online to complain about it. Try being part
of the solution here...not the problem.

Hmm ... I found the cameras to be rather
mediocre; kind of like what a cell phone
camera does.  Jaames has a point though,
this forum is about trying to fix all of
these problems with buggy software, lack of
documentation, and explaining what the
product can REALLY do and how that differs
from the boastful depictions in the
advertisements.

We'd have to take the Chinese up in another
forum.  X10 isn't losing money on these
products.  The markup is undoubtedly very,
very high such that if they send you as many
as three replacements they are probably
STILL ahead.  China gets favored nation
status as a trading partner because they can
sell products so incredibly cheaply by using
slave labor and this company sells those
products with an enormous marketting
system.  Well ... there you've gone and
sucked me into the debate!  ;-)

The VCR Commander I/II are actually one of
the more stable products X10 has. It is an
extremely simple device but is tricky for
people to program. Much of this is due to
bad instructions (even the improved
instructions are lacking in effort). I
would say (having programmed numerous) that
the vast majority of VCR Commanders that
are deemed defective are actually just
simple problems that are overlooked. For
example:
1)they dont like universal remotes much 2)
new batteries in the remotes are pretty
critical 3)once any programming fails you
need to reset the device 4)timing with many
remotes is so incredibly the difference
between success and failure.

Don't ever give x10 your email address
unless you want to get tons of spam from
them.

Forgive me if this has already been
addressed: You get what you pay for. Video
quality on the Anaconda is acceptable, for
the cost. I haven't programmmed my
Commander yet, but you're dealing with
composite video. For the buck, x10 is
magnificent! My set up has performed
flawlessly for years at -25F to 80 above (I
live in Anchorage AK) I even beam the
signal to the living room to another TV via
2.4GHz RF link and I can still clearly see
who's at the front door. Buddy, X10 freakin
rocks! If anyone wants better quality, it
can be found - but at significant price.

Since you love to interject "racism" into
everything: Communism sucks.  China sucks.
They suck because they let the greedy
vultures of their own government, and the
greedy profiteers from around the world use
them so badly.  But the worst people in the
world are the people who market the Chinese
products to the rest of the world.  Make a
profit off other people's suffering.  It
used to be Malasia and Syngapore, before
that it was Taiwan, before that it was
Japan.  Soon it will be Iraq and
Afganistan, or African nations.  Where ever
there are poor impoverished and desperate
people, the greedy capitalists will flood
in.  The old mantra "If I don't do it,
someone else will" is just plain greed.

Ya know Sam we really don't need that line
of thought here...its really not
nessassary. Its very easy to be a
critic....try being part of the
solution ..not the problem. With companies
like Enron,Nortel don't talk about greed in
other contries.
