5.8 ghz Phone interference
« on: January 10, 2005, 07:51:47 PM »

Has anyone tried the 5.8 GHz wireless phones?
I have a 2.4 GHz and it screws up the
picture.  I went back to the 900 GHz and it
works great.  I would like to upgrade to 5.8,
but I am not sure if it will work.

Jay, you are hilarious.  I have Uniden 5.8GHz
phones and 2.4Ghz wireless network.  I'm
curious to see if 2.4GHz will interfere with
the security sensors?  What frequency do the
motion/door/window sensors use anyway?

Some 5.8's are only 5.8 ONE way. 2.4 the
other. Unidens are TRUE 5.8.

Door/Windows are 310MHZ me thinks.

I am getting interference also. I use a
wireless network in my house and I think
that is also 2.4 GHZ.
I bought some cameras and placed one of
them about 20 feet from the receiver. I get
flashing bars of interference every now and
again. Is it the wireless LAN?
Thanks.

Answer for Jay. My Uniden 5.8 phone is
model EX 15160 and I get no interference at
all on my cams.Just remember a microwave
will drive it nuts.
I also get lines in video but that changes
from great PIX to washed out at times.I
think signal strength varies with weather.
Computer wireless lans interfear also.
Hope this helps,
Dave

I just purchased a Uniden TRU8885 phone. It
seems to work great with the wireless
cameras.  Finally a decent phone while using
my cameras.  I wish the retards at X10 would
let their customers know what devices work
with their equipment.  I asked one of the
noodleheads a while back about upgrading to a
5.8 and they said it would probably interfere
like the 2.4, so I never bought the 5.8.   I
think I should jump onto the thread of how
outstanding the customer service is.

Buyer Beware of 5.8 Ghz Phone Type !

All 5.8Ghz phones are not equal. There are 5.8 Analog, and 5.8 Digital, and 5.8 Spread Spectrum.
No matter which phone you chose, make sure it says "Wireless Network Friendly" on the box.
The reason is that not all 5.8Ghz phones transmit and receive in the 5.8 Ghz range.

Look at the specifications in the manual or on the web. Most manufacturers
have downloadable manuals or otherwise post the cordless phone specs on the web.
What you will find is that many Transmit in 5.8Ghz and Receive in 2.4Ghz,(or visa-versa), while still calling themselves
a 5.8 Ghz Cordless Phone. The "Wireless Network Friendly" units will all transmit and receive on 5.8Ghz..
