Does the Vanguard tilt and pan camera do a
smooth pan or does it only move to
predetermined positions?

Hi BHOFF  The vanguard will move to your
stored positions,or pan,tilt,and zoom
manualy by remote. It also does alot more.
I think it's great but I wish it was a
exterior cam.

Double D ... ure saying that the Vanguard
cannot / should not be used outside? I'm in
Canada and thought that the Vanguard would
be ideal for monitoring outside my property?

I'm interested to know how it holds up in
the cold temperatures (-30).

The label on the bottom of the camera
says "for indoor use only". I used one
outdoors for a while and after it got some
water on it from a driving rain it stopped
turning on/off.  I opened it and found
water had got on the ciircuit board that
controls the power. I replaced a transistor
to fix the camera and added some seals to
prevent the water from getting back
inside.  The camera worked fine outside
after that. It was under an overhang so it
rairly got wet.  Only during a rain storm
with lots of wind. It worked fine in the
fairly cold winter temps in New Hampshire.
Not quite -30.

hmmmm interesting ... i saw in the forum
someone mentioned there's a box u can get
from home depot to protect ure cam ... i
wonder if i can get some kind of dome or
something that would do the trick. I
definetly need this cam in front my home
(due to it's long zoom range vs my long
exposed fron yard). I would hate to not be
able to use it on the exterior. Vangaurd is
one of the reasons I like x10. anyone has
suggestions?

Go to frys.com and search for dome. I bought the swan one for my ninjia cam but... x10 now makes the Sentinel camera.

Ninjia about 60.00

Vangaurd 599.99

Sentinel 699.99 + vangaurd cam + a dome.
