I have had good experiences with X-10, I
have been using to very old powerhouse X-10
modules which worked extremely well.
However, do not use them with frost
fluorescent economy lightbulbs, any of the
modules.  For some reason the modules have
no idea what to do with the lights when
they receive the turn on or turn off
command.  From either a timer, remote-
control, or security console.  Also, you'll
be interested to know the modules that they
sell at radio shack are exactly the same as
the X-10 system, and are therefore
compatible. A very cool system, and with
the new software packages you can really
start freaking people out. :)

Straight from the box three years ago with
the camera and Ninja Pan, all under $100
made me a believer! I now have 5 cams and
plan to add more! Just added I-Witness and
it's causing havouc with the previously
installed light modules though? Being an
Electrical Technician, I know I'll figure
it out?

Reading these forums is really sort of
scary.  Hasn't anyone had a good out-of-the-
box experience with X10 products? [Very Unlikely] Their
deals look really good but reading the
forum is scaring me away from buying the
product. [It SHOULD be scaring you] Doesn't any of their cameras work
straight out of the box the way that they
advertise? [No] Or does one have to be an
electronic geek to get them to work? [Pretty much]

I would appreciate hearing some good
reviews if there are any.  Thanks.
I bag on the X10 stuff a lot because it's really cheap stuff, and doesn't work reliably or consistantly, but can be fun when you can tweak it enough to actually work. Look at X10 as more of a hobby than anything else, and it might be a good deal!

I have used X10 for several years right out of the box each time and my experience with them is great!  I have 4 color wide eye recording to a vcr and snapshots on the computer with mutiview and 3 b&W wired cams to 2 other vcrs and have just added Active Home and have not tried it yet, but have used their other home automation and it worked great and very easily.  I have had super deals on everything I got.  I am really happy with it still.  Super home surveillance.  I do keep all of my cameras inside but facing out. I am an X10 fan!

And you should be scared, or at least weary, some of the stuff works some doesn't it just depends on what you buy, for example I'm on my 4th video commander for some reason they just die, one just died right in the box I took it out 6 months latter and it won't recognize the motion detectors I programed in it. Here take a look at this guys experience after spending fifteen thousand dollars see below. On the plus side I think the wireless cameras are pretty good but wish they had slightly higher resolution also I find the range is somewhat limited and with a directional antenna it makes setting up multiple cameras kind of a balancing act.
