Trouble setting up camera, vcr/dvd, and cable to tv
« on: May 11, 2005, 08:03:58 AM »

I have cable hooked up to my vcr/dvd and
then to the tv.  How do I hook up the video
receiver to the vcr/dvd? Or am I supposed to
hook it directly to the tv?  and how would I
accomplish this?  Thank you for any help.

You could do it either way depending on what
your goal is. For eample I have on receiver
hooked to my computer for web viewing, one
on my TV for seeing who is at the door from
my couch and one hooked up to a hidden vcr
for recording.
What type of setup are you looking for?

ok, just run the receiver into the vcr and
the vcr into the tv.
There are a few ways to do this, I assume by
your first post that you have cable
television that runs to your vcr and the vcr
is hooked to the tv. If so, then you are
halfway there. Use an RCA cable (most likely
will have a yellow end (white and red are
for sound but will also work, it is just
colored to help identify) to go from the
camera receiver to the vcr's "Video In" then
just put the vcr on the "AUX" setting
(sometimes is called "Front1" or similar)
and the tv on whatever channel you would to
watch a movie and violà!

There is no RCA cable.  It is the standard
RG58 (i think) cable.  The same into the
vcr/dvd as out to the tv.  Also cannot
figure out how to get the vcrdvd into AUX.
I did just plug it into the back of a tv and
the receiver worked fine but then I am
unable to record while I am gone.  I really
need that feature because I have had a rash
of stuff missing.  All the neighbors are
theives (sad when they admit it, isn't it?)
Anyway, do you think I am having trouble
because of the vcr/dvd combo?  Maybe I
should just buy and try a plain old vcr?

The problem with using coax (RG58) cable in
your situation is that your cable tv signal
is also comming in through that so you would
need to add a switching device before your
dvd/vcr so you can choose whether to watch
tv or cameras.
If you have no RCA inputs in the back (or
front) of the dvd/vcr then you woulden't
have an AUX setting to go into, if you post
the make and model of the player I will see
what info I can find for you.

The model is Samsui vrdvd4000.  I do see 1
each yellow, white, and red labeled
connection on the vcr/dvd.  But I still
cannot get the cameras to work from it.
Would it help if I got one of the vcr
controllers?  I apologize for being a pain
but I really am trying to get this to work.
And I appreciate your patience with me.

It looks like that model only has the front
aux inputs so you would have to use that and
it should work once you find how to switch
it to that. I can't find any documentation
online but if you still have the user manual
it should be listed in there (look for aux
input of front input).
No problem on patience :) I love my x-10
equipment and am (slowly) working on getting
my whole house all set up so I receve help
and in turn I help others when I can :)
