Vanguard impressions (part 2)
« on: May 21, 2005, 03:40:25 AM »

To give credit where it is due: X-10 tech
support and customer support has been
exceptional.  I almost didn't do business
with X-10 due to the poor impressions from
people on the forum but from my order to
delivery to followup tech support questions
they've been fantastic.  For example, when
I emailed asking for help with my
transponder issues I received notification
that a new transponder was being shipped to
me at no charge before I even heard from a
tech about my concern!  he anticipated that
i had a bad device but still corresponded
with me for further info about my problem!
(Course, I still have the problem, but at
least they were trying to help!  :)

I'd be happy to answer any questions people
may have about the camera.  I'm also
interested in talking with other vanguard
owners about their experience with their
camera.

Hi John,
I have been wondering if the recorded
picture quality of the Vanguard is better
than the X-10. In other words, I don't
really care about the zoom, so is the high
price strictly because of the zoom or is it
a superior lens/camera?
Thanks!

John G., the bottom line is (Course, I still
have the problem. Thata fantastic, Why do
other sell same Vanguard for 100.00 cheaper,
yes I have one, works good now but do not
expect it to last long as it's all plastic,
gears too, so whats that old saying, look
before you leap, I'm not cutting X10 down,
their just trying to make a killing, er I
mean a buck.

John G., I purchased a multiple Vanguard
camera system about a year ago for remote
access via the Internet.  Overall, I think
it is a great camera system, but have
encountered a critical problem limiting the
system's usefulness.  The CM-19A PC
transceiver unit has an extremely limited
transmission range, resulting in a very
unreliable control system for the cameras.
I have communicated with X.10 technicians
multiple times.  Overall, they have tried to
solve the problem by replacing the CM-19A
unit, use of a signal repeater, etc.  None
of their solutions have worked. When that
point was reached, the X.10 technicians
simply stop responding to my repeated
requests for further help.  I suspect they
know the issue is actually a deficient link
in the chain but don't have a solution.  In
fact, one of the X.10 technicians
acknowledged the problem at one point, and
said he personally added a USB extension to
place the CM-19A near his Vanguard Camera.
This does not solve the problem for a
multiple camera system.   For now, I keep
checking the X.10 website hoping for an
announcement of a new, enhanced CM-19A
unit.  Until then, I keep testing the waters
to see if anyone has an alternate solution.
