Floodcams won't turn off lights
« on: June 11, 2005, 12:11:12 PM »

My floodcams cameras work but the lights stay
on all night.  I have had them on 2 or 3
different time settings, I have them on the
'dark' setting and they still won't turn off
after being tripped.  Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks

I have the time delay set to almost MIN,
which keeps them on for 4/5 minutes.
Try turning the power off(circuit breaker)
for 5/10 minutes during the day when it is
light outside.  Do not trip the motion
detector until after the lights go off when
the power is restored.  Then trip the
camera,  the lights may come the first time
on but should go off and not come on the
next time it is tripped when light but
should when dark.  I also have to go through
this whan there is a power failure or after
using the remote on one of my cameras but
the other 2 work fine.

The reason is most likely because the flood
light bulbs are to close together and the
heat is being picked up by the sensor which
keeps lights on.  Move the lights away from
the camera.  Also let the lights cool down
for a while before you test them.  I had
this same problem with reqular flood lights
and found the heat to be causing the
problem.  Good Luck

Hey, Grant.

Would you by chance have a Ninja robotic
mount controller with your equipment, or be
using a Ninja in conjunction with your Flood-
Cams? The reason I ask is because there is a
fluke where, if you are using a Ninja remote
to switch between cameras, it will switch
the cameras, but somehow interferes with the
timer function in the Flood-Cams and they
WILL NOT switch off unless turned off at the
source, or with a 'regular' X-10 remote. I
hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I'm not using any other
type cameras or halogen bulbs.  I will try to
separate them a little and also do what Al
said . Thanks again

Hey Al,
What do you have your other floodcam
settings at?  Do you have the Light
sensitivity set at Light or Dark?

Jim,
I have the light control just off of dark so
that they come on at dusk. If you are having
the same problem as Grant,  sometimes after
my reset one of the cameras lights will come
on during the day the first time activated,
turn off with the remote and then works
correctly.

Tony why do you recommend not to use
Halogen bulbs? I have the same problem on
both my floodcams... but it happens more
with floodcam #2 which has actual
floodlights halogens, floodcam #1 does it
once in a while but it has regular indoor
halogen bulbs since its under roof and it
does not get wet. how would that make the
sensor keep the lights on for more than its
suppose to? In fact, based on the heat
theory this makes a lot more sense, any
tips are greatly appreciated, specially
after Spending $600 on a set up that is not
fully functional after almost a year.

There is a problem if you have more than one
floodcam.  If the subject activates one
cam/lights and moves directly to activate
another cam/lights the first lights will
remain on.  If the flood lights on one
camera are activated and before the light
time out(turn off) another floodcam is
activated the lights on the first floodcam
will remain on.

I have 4 flood cams and I do not have that
problem Al.  What I did was make sure your
switch is set to auto so they can turn off
with out getting a command.  Turn the
setting to dark as far as it will go, their
is not much difference this keeps them from
bouncing on and off as it gets dark.  If
there are trees or any moving objects in
view of the sensor try moving them away
from the movement.  Finely and most
important, find the circuit breakers that
control your flood cam and if your lights
stay on or will not respond to commands
turn them off for 3 to 5 minutes.  if this
does not work your could have the dreded
phase problem.  If so buy a phase coupler.
Smarthome.com has the type that plug into
your 220 outlet usually your dryer outlet.

If you have active home pro use the monitor
feature.  It is very helpful to see just
what commands are being sent.  I have had
my flood cams for 5 years and have only
needed to replace one of them so far.  Good
Luck I hope this helps.

Mike G, thanks for the comments, but that
is just it, I do not want to hear "buy
this" to fix the problem. Also, about the
breaker trick, what if I have them on a
switch? would cutting the power from the
switch have the same reset effect?

THA187UM, Yes the switch is same as breaker
and the AUTO switch only controls camera not
flood lights.
