Enclosures for Outside Camera Use

Looking for an inexpensive clear plastic
housing of some type to encase the
NightWatch Wireless Low-Light B/W Video
Camera.  Video is fairly good in
conjunction with a motion light tripping
and I am hooking up to a Timelapse VCR to
record 24 hours a day.  I want to mount the
camera on the side of my house and it is
very exposed.  I would like to cover it
with some sore of plexiglass enclosure (I
could build one but I would purchase one
already made).

If you buy CD-ROM or DVDs in bulk
quantities, you can use the clear plastic
spindle case for this purpose.  I cut the
spindle out of the case and screw the base
to the eves of the building.  Then I thread
the camera wire through the hole left
behind where the spindle used to be and
mount the wired camera on the baseplate.
Then I snap/twist the clear spindle-case-
cover onto the base, thus covering the
camera with a weather tight clear dome
(more like a cylinder).  Cheap but
effective.  I had to go through my spindles
to find the clearest cases for this
purpose.  FWIW

I am looking for any info about making x-
10's Vanguard cameras safe in Colorado
weather, and will protect to 0 degrees F or
less? They are super cameras at a great
price, but they are missing the boat on
infrared,sound, and weatherproof enclosure
etc. I read the guy with the CD case
idea...which is great!, but whom must live
in a warmer climate.I am wondering about
wrapping them in Insulation....I also bought
some Dlink's 2200 cameras, which may be
easier, but the PT and especially the Zoom
that has to be outside at a range of for
over 1/2 mile is fantastic for the money,
but dumb in not offering any all weather
solutions! anyone know of any better camera
besides thses two which seem the best and
Axis seems to darn expensive for home? Any
thoughts and help will be repaid in kind!!!

I have Ninjas mounted under the eaves on
the outside of my house without any cover.
Also some low-light and fixed cams mounted
exposed to the elements.  Have gone through
many Toronto winters without any problem.
Never had to clear or fix any camera.  We
don't get the snow Buffalo does, but we do
get some.

Thanks for the replies, but these are for X-
10 Vanguard camera, which are bigger and
have super PTZ cpapabilities and lens
quality that lets you see 1/2 mile away, and
the best for the money depending....They are
probably 6-9" high and 4-5" wide with PTZ...
Any ideas are always appreciated!

Any type of cover will have to have an
extended shield cover to keep rain from
hitting the clear cover, else the camera
image will be blurry.

Do people actually buy that $500 vanguard
crap?  There are so many quality PTZ
cameras out there much cheaper and with
real technical support.  I got land in
Louisiana to sell you!

YUP people buy it. It is actually very nice
in certain situations but it is prone to
breakage.

One good way to use it is as a small
business owner, you install it above/behind
the cash register and you can monitor your
employees/store from home...keep it simple
and get the warrantee and it can be kindof
cool. You can also control say the lights
so you can turn on a light at the remote
location so you can see and then view with
the camera.

Thanks for all the ideas, but NPONE deal
with sub-zero waether conditions. I will ask
Ian to tell me why the Vanguards are
such "crap" and to specifically cite the
manufacturer's name and model numbers that
he thinks are SO MUCH BETTER for the money?
Go loook at SDC and other camera vendors
only, and tell me exactly which are better
than Vanguards for the function,management
and power in a small package! Panasonic and
others are almost DOUBLE ,yet some are
weatherproof (depending on Proof or
Resistance). Dlinks are good but are bigger
and do not have the Zoom. So Like I
challeneged everone before, tell me exactly
what manuafacturer, model and price it can
be bought at, and I will be the first to say
I am wrong. Besides, I believe in ONLY
supporting AMERICAN COMPANIES!!

are assembled and packaged here in usa.
burle and others with ptz lens with
industrial housing and heater all much
cheaper than vangard crap.  an much more
durable.  simply shop around and you will
find them.  you are full of crap you x10
shill.
