Anyone have any good ideas on keeping track
of your car when it's home, having the
automation system know when it's home and
know when it's not?

I thought of one that would require the car
to have a security system though.... Use the
relay outputs of the security system to
trigger a relay hooked up to an X10 RF
remote to send signals.  When the car system
is armed, should have output available for
door locking or window roll up, use that to
let the automation system see "car is
here".  Then when disarmed, use that to let
the automation system "car is going to be
leaving".  If alarm is tripped, use headlamp
flasher output or ?? use that to let the
automation system know the car alarm is
sounding.
Any other ideas?

I'm thinking about a security system for my
car as well. However, I plan to keep it
simple by mounting an IR motion sensor
under the dash within a few inches of a 12
volt light bulb. When the alarm lights the
bulb, the motion sensor will send a signal
to the camera and recorder up to 100 feet
away. Since my car is always parked in the
same location I am assured of perfect video
every time. What do you think of this
setup?

That sounds like a good idea JeepMan.  Do
you plan to wire the motion sensor the the
car's battery or alarm system, or are you
going to use batteries?  Also, I've never
heard of a motion sensor triggered by light,
let us know how that works out.

Greg, what do you want the alarm to do when
the car arrives or leaves?  As far as
triggering the house alarm when the car
alarm sounds, there are many ways to do
that, but I think the simplest would be set
up a low amperage relay to a remote panic
button that will reach the alarm's reciever
like you said.  The relay would probably be
best hooked up to the siren or horn output,
as long as you have a remote on you for the
house alarm so you can shut it off before
you arm/disarm the car.  Otherwise you'll
trigger the house alarm unecessarily, unless
you program the car alarm for silent
arm/disarm.
