Hi, I'm wondering what stops someone next
door from picking up the transmission from
my cameras and how would I know if this had
occurred, I need a simple answer as this is
all new to me. Thanks

Phil Han

Unfortunatley, these cameras run on 2.4GHZ
that can be picked up by another receiver.
They are not encrypted.  You have four
channel selections but if the other person
has the same receiver they can pick your
signal up.  Also it all depends on how far
your neigbor is.  Also you won't know if it
occured, unless you just happen to walk
into there house and you see your bedroom
on there monitor.  One thing though, turn
of all your cameras and just leave the
receiver on, try all the channels an see if
you can pick up an image, if you do some
nearby has the same system and that means
they can see images from your camera.  But
don't worry too much, the cameras only have
100ft range line of sight.

We just had an incident in the news here in
the Milwaukee area earlier this year, where
somebody had a wireless camera system, and
picked up their neighbor's camera. Their
system recorded the neighbor beating their
children. The person called the cops, and
the childbeaters were arrested. Kinda makes
you think, doesn't it?

Some low lifes also drive around with
homemade dish antenas that can tune in you
camera signals.

Hey Brian H. why do you call them low lifes?
im one of those people. I have that setup so
i can tell if im being spy'd on in hotel
rooms, dressing rooms, and any other place
that video does not belong. Just because you
werent smart enough to think of it on your
own, doesnt give you right to insult someone.
If someone has low moral value and peers into
peoples homes, then perhaps a law should be
made against recieving RF on an unlicenced
band. I only blame the lazy or ignorant
person to setup such an insecure system.
People should ALWAYS do basic research on
what they are going to set up before they
install it. Too many people just plug it in
and let it run with no understanding how oy
why...

Brian H

OK I amend my statement SOME are low lifes.
If I ofended you I am sorry. Stop beig so
touchy and get on with it!

If you live in a very populated area, like
myself, and u have the time and know how, go
out and see whats being transmitted. So far i
have been able to spot a few "bathroom cams",
and hidden cameras in dressing rooms. In
fact, one of the cameras that i found was put
in the ladys room of a respectable law office
in my neighborhood. It is really f-ed up
that we know that some people actually do
install spy cams, but its really awkward
feeling finding them....

Brian H

I read your other messages and can
understand what you are saying. Finding such
things must be very stressful.

foxx d'gamma

It somewhat is. When i do find something
thats of questionable morale, like the
bathroom cam, wo do you turn to for legal
action? I cant find  a good way, or a legal
way of informing anyone. If i turn to the
owner of the place, he could have been the
one to install it. If i take the info to the
cops, i could be turning myself in for a
crime that i didnt know exists....

The staff investigative reporter at your local newspaper or tv
station would probably be pretty interested and could pursue
the issue with little legal risk to themselves.

It's relatively easy to build a signal shield
simply by lining the back wall where the
camera is with a brass mesh. this will also
have the effect of killing WiFi outside of
the mesh.
