I have a problem with one of my windows,
specifically in that it swings "in" and
slides over with no "frame" on top to mount
the magnetic switch (frame ends up flush
with trim/drywall on the inside so
it "disappears").  This leaves only the
right hand of the window to mount the
switch, except it is a "curved handle" from
top to bottom again leaving no way to mount
the magentic switch.  Is there a "button"
switch I can install inside the frame to
trigger the sensor? If so, where can it be
obtained and are there any hints on how to
route the wire in that situation?  Ideally
I'd route the wire down within the wall as I
have a 2nd window mounted the next stud over
but doesn't go as low as this one.  In that
case, I'd love to be able to use 1 sensor
for both windows since they are nearly on
top of each other.

Add to my issues a door leading to an
attached garage which opens out instead of
in.  Again finding something that I can mount
inside the door jamb would solve a lot of
headaches on this one as the magnetic mounts
don't work well  in this case either.

You can find on the market standard REED
switch that are meet to install within door
frame. They are usaly 1/4 inch round by 1
inch long with wire one end. They work with
a little round magnet you can glue amost
anywhere.  Just replace the X10 switch and
magnet, attach the new REED switch to the
X10 RF transmitter part using wire come
with it.

As of about a year ago, Radio Shack had
these button switches in two different
sizes.

Would a motion sensor in these locations
work as well for you?  It would still
provide an alarm in the away mode, but not
in the home mode.
