Dual Mode Motion Detector Flood
« on: July 08, 2004, 08:32:25 AM »

I have a question about the Dual Mode
Motion Detector Flood. I would like to use
this detector for when someone pulls into
the driveway turn on the foutain and chime
in the house anytime during the day. I
would also like if its dark turn on the
flood light and the front porch light. I
quess the main question is if you have
modules on the dusk to down side will
detector trigger them only while dark.

The unit sends on/off commands only when
enabled. So if it set up for dusk to dawn,
that's when it will send commands. If you
ignore daylight, will send commands full
time day or night.  The flood lights are
synced with the on/off commands being sent.
Ie, if you ignore daylight, the floods will
come on during the day when it is
triggered. HTH

My flood cam (mounted under my soffit) stays
on when it is either switched on via my wall
switch and/or when triggered at night. Does
any one have this problem? I was also told
that the camers will be triggered by motion
day AND night reguardless of the dusk to
dawn setting, is this so?

John did you find out anything?  I have a
similar problem, if another floodcam turn on
while another is on the camera turns off but
the lights remain on until turned off with
remote.

My flood cam stays on when it is switched
on via my wall switch and Dusk / Night or
Motion will not triggered the Flood
regardless of the position of the controls
and the camara remains on all the time

It would seem several us also have problems
with floodlights staying on regardless of
settings. I have tried switching with
remote, no motion, short range , long
range, dark, light, various time settings.
All settings, different re,mote seting
included... the light stays on. Would like
to see some way to fix the problem.

Sometimes you get bad stuff right out of the
box, brand new. However, I see this
complaint a lot, so maybe there's something
else going on. For the camera question,
there is a 'manual' and 'auto' switch on the
FloodCam. On 'manual', the camera will come-
on at anytime that motion is sensed and stay
on. It acts independent of the flood-light
day/night setting. On 'auto', the camera
will turn off when the lights turn off.
Make sure you're using 'regular' flood-lamp
bulbs. If you use an energy saving one, it
may either not work, or will come-on and not
turn off when another floodcam turns on. Of
course, for the light, this sin't a problem
except for wasted power, but you've got two
cameras on and transmitting at the same
time, so you'll get a screwed-up image on
the TV.
Another thing to consider is to make sure
that the transceiver is at a happy medium
between the floodcams and the breaker panel.
These lights send out a 300Mhz wireless X-10
remote signal to tell the transceiver to
turn other cameras off. If the transceiver
isn't in a good location, you'll have
problems. I hope this helps.

Another thing...
If you happen to have a remote for the Ninja
Pan & Tilt camera base and use it to switch
between camera views, the light will NOT
turn off by themselves. I don't know why,
but they'll just stay on. There was the
first question in this post by Paul S. and
to him I would say. off-hand, that he needs
to use the Active-Home (NOT the 'Pro'
package, as it's an abortion....) automation
software and he can set things up to do as
he wants.
To answer the thoughts concerning the types
of bulbs used: The X-10 Power Line Command
signal travels through the lamp filament. I
know, it kind of sounds stupid, but it does.
If you use a halogen bulbs, the filament
gets pretty damn hot and the signal goes to
pieces trying to travel through it. If you
use a srew-in florescent bulbs, something
happens to the signals in those and they get
blocked by the compact flourescent power
supply in the bulb. I hope this helps.

I have the same problem.  When I turn the
light switch on, the floodlight bulbs come
on (day or night), and will never turn off.

I have tried the settings "dark", "light"
and somewhere inbetween.  I have also tried
the time delay set at "min", "Max" and in
the middle.  Regardless of the ambient light
conditions the bulbs come on, and will not
go off.  I've waited for over an hour each
time.  I also ensured no motion was
available to trigger the sensor.

I've tried to revive wy lights after
finding about using the halogen bulb,
removed one and replaced with a regular
floodlamp. Stil no ability to turn off/on
with motion detector. Is there a way to
confirm if the motion detector is
functioning properly. I have a multimeter
and know how to use it to ohm and verify
voltage. I wonder if a schematic is
available to troubleshoot if motion
detector is burnt out or not?

I was having the same problem with the lamps
staying on.  I found out I am able to turn
each lamp on/off individually with the
remote.  I think you are just getting a bad
signal on that particular floodcam. Ive also
tried manually shutting the housepower and
turning it back on in that line after a few
seconds and it seems to restart the system.
Try to controll it with the remote 1st. I
find that once they start working correctly
they preatty much keep working fine after
that.

Carlos,  Thank You for the advice. It
didn't work right away the first time I
turned the power back on, the lights stayed
on continuously as before I turned the
power off. I turned the power back off for
about 10 minutes, turned power back on. The
lights were still on continuously. I was
giving up, then heard a loud click "*"
lights went off. I moved lights came on.
They have been working correctly for almost
two weeks now. Thank you again. Rick
