newbie floodlight cam problems
« on: September 21, 2004, 09:24:45 PM »

Hi, I just installed a floodlight camera on
my grandmothers garage next door (approx.
60 ft) and I'm having some problems with
the motion detection recording on multiview.
The camera turns on and off from my
Activehome no problem, but when I start up
multiview it turns on the floodlights (when
it's dark) and I can't turn them back off.
When it's light out, everything turns on
fine (no spotlights) but the motion
activation doesn't work. Do I need a
repeater for the RF signal from the motion
detector to make this work?
This is my first attempt at X10 stuff, and
I still want to install my other spotlight
at the back of my garage, if I ever get
this to work.
Please help.
Thanks,
Burke

Burke, you may need a repeater (or booster).
Sometimes just moving the receiver to
another location can solve the problem.

Can't get this to work.
Has anybody tried one of those 4 channel
DVR cards with success?

Hey, Burke.
Unfortunately, I don't have Multi-View, so
I'm not sure what to tell you, there...
It seems that you may be in need of the X-10
signal repeater that someone else has
mentioned. The Flood-Cam transmits a
wireless X-10 signal that I presume Multi-
View is supposed to pick-up, much like a VCR
Commander would. Unfortunately, it seems
that there is something knocking this signal
down. My understanding is that this signal
is supposed to have about a 100 foot range,
but if there's a lot of brick, or maybe
aluminium siding involved somewhere, this
could be affecting the signal.
Also, I know that a remote like those that
are used for the Ninja Pan & Tilt camera
bases can be used to switch from camera to
camera, or Flood-Cam to Flood-Cam, but in
the instance of the Flood-Cams, the Flood-
Cam lights won't turn-off automatically. I
have had to use a 'regular' X-10 remote to
turn the Flood-Cams off so that they'll work
automatically and turn the lights off after
the allotted time. I've read of another
instance of Flood-Cams not turning the
lights off in another post somewhere and I'm
thinking that the software has the same
problem as what you get when using the Ninja
remote. I don't know why. Perhaps it is
possible to send an 'off' command to these
lights from the software? Do you just have
the one camera, or is there another? I hope
this is of help.

Wouldn't the fact that the
transciever "clicks" when theres motion be
telling me that the signal is being sent
and recieved?
I have a video card now too, and I'm going
to give that a try. I suppose I'll need
another video reciever to run my second
camera too........d'oh
