Where did the panic button go?
« on: March 31, 2005, 04:28:23 PM »

I purchased a RadioShack 49-1000 and it is
just what I needed. However, I have three
questions:
1: Where is the panic button on the remote?
2: Is there a compatiable remote with a
longer range? (our house is long)
3: Are the door switches normally closed or
open. That is, when the door is closed, is
the reed switch closed?

Thanks, George

1) Don't think there is one.
2) Not sure but X10 is the OEM for it. FCC
ID Number belongs to X10
3) When the door is closed the magnetic
switch is closed. It opens when you open the
door away from the magnet. If you look at
the lower edge of the sensors board. You
will see a 2 terminal connection with a
jumper on it. Another switch can be wired
there and if the manual is correct [I have
not tried it yet] a different zone can be
wired to it.
OK from personal tests. The 49-1000 will NOT
activate either of the powerhorn sirens. Due
to the way the signals are sent on the
powerline when the console is tripped.

If time permits; over the weekend; I will
try an X10 Security Remote on my 49-1000
console.

Thanks Brian,
I followed your lead and checked out the X-
10 remotes. Their instruction manual for the
key chain remote showed that pressing the
ARM & DISARM at the same time was the panic
button. It worked on mine too -- shame the
manual I have says nothing.

Now if the X-10 Master Remote (#SH624-S)
will work I could get that for the longer
range that I need.

Thanks for your help.

Try mounting the security console in the
central area of your home for best range. I
have also discovered that mounting the
console higher on the wall with the wall
mount bracket also improves range of the
remotes.
