Floodcam Stays On
« on: December 26, 2004, 11:41:55 AM »

Looks like after 3-4 months of operation
one of my floodcam's does not turn off. In
other words, the lights stay on day/or
night and none of my remotes shut the
lights off! Any Ideas?

You may want to try to cycle the breaker off
and on to see if it is stuck on. Best guess
is it has failed. I have seen things like
what you described in messages.

I have similar problem with FloodCam
before.  It was deemed defective and
returned it for a replacement.  Remember,
it comes with 1-yr warranty and X10 is
serious about this.

If you just happen to have a Ninja Pan &
Tilt remote and use it to scan between
cameras, your FloodCam will not turn off
until you send it an off command from
a 'regular' x-10 remote. Other than this,
I'm not usre what to tell you.

My floodcam used to automatically shutoff
once the lights were tripped.  Now it stays
on forever, uynless I turn it off with the
remote.
Powercycling the unit doesn't seem to help.
Do the units go bad after a while?

I have never had a reply from tech support.
If you have more than one floodcam and the
first one turns on the lights and cam and
the motion moves to another one before the
first one times out and turns off.  The
second cam and light will turn on and turn
off the first cam but not the flood lights
the first lights stay on until turned off
with a remote.  This also happens when there
is a power failure and when the power is
restored.

X-10 Floodcams are pure crap.  I have
constant problems with my floodcams with
the lights coming on and staying on forever
until you turn off AC power to them several
times to reset the logic circuit.  I have
two floodcams and they have this symtom
straight out of the box.  They might work
for a whole day or two and then go buggy
and stay on.  Also the video camera goes
off sometimes and you have to power off and
on.  Remote control cannot turn them on or
off also.  Always needs a AC power reset
with its controls set at their described
reset positions to clear it.  Pure
headaches since I bought these over two
years ago.  Multiview and Webview are all a
waste of money also.  The software is buggy
and does not work like it is described.
Tech support never fixes it (I reported
these bugs over two years ago!) and I see
to this day many folks still complaining
about same old bugs.  Lousey!  What a big
rip-off operation X10 is running.

I don't bother with the emails to X10
Support anymore. I get instant results(well
almost instant after being on hold for
awhile)by using there 1-800 number.

I have a plethora of X-10 cams including
the Floodcam.  I have been using it for a
couple of years now without issue.  I
recall in the beginning - getting the
settings on the control panel set properly
took a few minutes, but that is to be
expected.

I have several Ninja cams and I remotely
control them from various places using the
internet. (Pan & Tilt Pro)  I can remotely
turn on lights if it is dark in any room.
I even hooked up a minijack to phono
connector to the audio portion of the
receiver, so that I could transmit the
audio as well as video over Netmeeting.

The motion sensors around the house put the
corresponding outside lights on and off
during the night, so we can simply walk
around the outside of the house and the
lights turn on for each area (zone) we
enter.

We have many pets so I like to keep an eye
on them when away.

I have only had to return one product, and
it was the only one I bought in a retail
store.  Customer Service was courtesy and
fast and it was as good an experience as I
have had.  I find their people quite
friendly and courteous.

I breed reptiles as a hobby which requires
heating and special lighting in each of the
critters' areas.  These are all on X-10
modules, and using the ActiveHome Pro -
they are virtually trouble-free.  I have
never had an innstance where the lights did
not turn on or off properly.  The repeat
feature ensures this.

X-10 makes my life easier every day.
