Can Not Remote Control Wall Switch/Powerhorn
« on: August 26, 2005, 04:46:09 PM »

I have the PS561 Scurity Console, the SH624
Security remote and keychain remotes that
came with the package, the Powerhorn and the
PLW01 Wall Switch Module.  For the life of
me, I can not get the Security Remote to
turn the wall switch on or off, let alone
the keychain remotes. I understand that the
Powerhorn works after 5 LIGHTS ON/OFF
sequences and since I can not get the wall
switch to work, this must be the reason the
Powerhorn doesn't work either. I started
from the beginning and placed the console on
A1, the Wall Module on A1 and the Security
Remote on A, nothing... I read somewhere
that the Wall Module should be set to A13
because the "SECURITY LIGHTS" on the
Security Remote was set to that, but still
nothing... How do I get the Security Remote,
keychain remotes to turn the Wall Switch on
and off and will with fix the Powerhorn
problem?

X10 Pro I believe used A13 on their version.
Try the powerhorn in the same outlet as the
PS561 console. On the SH264 push the buttons
marked 1 on and off at about 1 to 2 second
intervals. If it then goes off. LOUD watch
your closeness to the thing when it goes
off. Your wall switch and the outlet you
have the powerhorn normally connected to
maybe not getting the X10 Line Signals. Most
homes are wired split phase and if the
console is on one phase and the receivers
are on theother the signals maybe too weak
to activate. First try the powerhorn in the
same outlet, then do the same test with it
in the normal palace you have it.  Rough
test. Try toe problem outlets with a 220
Volt appliance on. Like a stove or dryer.
Sometimes that couples enough signals to
make the modules work. If it does a phase
coupler maybe needed. You may also want to
disconnect any electronic gear like TVs
computers etc. On the same circuits as they
sometime make noise or absorbe the X10
signals.

Thanks... will try. One other question,
though... Would a "X10 RADIO FREQUENCY
REPEATER (SR731 PSX01)" be just as good as a
coupler? Just asking only because I do not
look forward to installing a coupler at the
Service Panel.

By-The-Way, I plugged the Powerhorn into the
same outlet as the console, tried
the "LIGHTS ON", "LIGHTS OFF" on ALL of the
buttons on the remote AND even set off the
PANIC button and let it ring, still nothing.
The Powerhorn does not sound. I took it out
of the outlet and heard it "cherp" faintly,
as if it just ran out of power, though. I
don't get it. As for the Wall Switch, I
plugged the console in every outlet around
the switch, it still will not respond...
This is very frustrating.

No the SR731 will not act as a repeat. If
needed there are companies that make plug in
repeaters. I have a Smarthome one in my
Electric Dryers outlet.
Gee if the thing will not even trip with the
console and powerhorn or console and wall
switch on the same circuit [your settings of
all default A sound fine]. The console maybe
defective and not sending any X10 signals on
the line. Do you have any X10 modules that
will work with the console? You don't have
any other table top controller or RF
tranceiver to test with do you?

I to am having the same problem with an
DS7000 which will not work with the
Powerhorn. I also tried many different
outlets in the buidling. I even used an
IR543 to force an alarm, by repeatedly
pressing the on button. Nothing. I try the
same thing at a business next door and it
would not work over there with the IR543 a
Transciever and the Powerhorn either. I
bring it home and try the same thing and it
works immediatly.

The powerhorn needs a on off cycle for the
code it is set to. If you sent on's only it
will not respond. It sounds like you
business may have power line noise or signal
suckers. Guess it could also be lots of RF
garbage in the 310 Mhz. range.
