I was reading about the UM506 and I was
wondering if it was fully compatible (unlike
the X10 sirens) with the RS Plug N' Power 49-
1000. It says it's "Plug N' Power"
compatible on Radioshack's website so I'm
assuming it would work properly. OK, so
let's say if this is fully compatible, first
can you just directly connect an external
speaker/siren "safely" without blowing
anything up? Second, how should you set it,
like one housecode higher than any other
lamp/appliance module or something? Thanks!

The UM506 will work with the 49-1000 as will
any X10 Appliance Module. It does not turn
on with the All Light ON command from the
older RS unit or the DS7000. Anytime a House
Unit Code that it is set to it will turn on
or off. Only problem maybe that the 49-1000
sends an ON code to turn on the lights when
the Arm Away function is pushed on the
console. It can be set to pulse when turned
on for about 2-3 seconds or continous. That
mode it turns on and off by the line
commands. If memory serves me at 24 volts DC
it can handle 5 apms. They are a dry type
contact so no internal voltages are on them.
If the siren was connected to the contacts
it would pulse ON and OFF as the 49-1000
sends ot the flashing lamp codes. The U506
has to be set to one of the 2 codes the 49-
1000 sends out during a triggered condition.

It can be set to momentary closing. That way
an ON signal turns it on for about 2-3
seconds then it resets itself. In continious
it stays on untill an off command is
received.

So if I follow this and add a UM506 to my RS
49-100 and use the key chain remote it would
sound an outdoor siren and not come on when
I use the remote to arm the system.
Correct?

The 49-1000 doesnt' send any All Lights On
and Off signals. It sends two X10 codes A1
and A1 are defaults. The UM506 will respond
to that signal and will close anytime it
gets a valid signal. So anything that lights
the security lights will also trigger the
UM508.

Well I'm going to order a UM506 and hook it
up to my 120V AC old sirene and see if it
works. If it does I'll mount an outside box
and wire it all up in it.

The switch in the UM506 is not rated for 120
VAC. It is for low voltages only. Though I
have seen some say if insulated correctly it
would work.

O.K., so if I put a relay on the UM506 and
have it switch the 120 VAC power to the
sirene it should work then.
Correct?

Yes. I have seen some X10 dealers say it
will do 120 VAC; if the wires are properly
insulated. My guess is the exposed terminals
can be touched fairly easily.
